ORAL INTERP PERFORMANCE: TUESDAY October. 11, 1:30 PM-4:30 PM in E3-568A.
Students will need to find a piece of slam poetry on youtube and perform a 2 minute cutting of the poem. Students can review the oral interp. examples to gain a better understanding of the expectations of this assignment. While the example performances are 10 minutes long, you are only required to give a 2-minute performance. Students should look for a slam poem on YouTube that has a significant emotional impact. This is an acting assignment so I want to see a lot of emotion. Do not be afraid to scream, cry, or be funny depending on the type of characterization your poem requires. You cannot write your own poem or perform a song you know as a poem. Log into youtube and type in any subject you can think of. Then include the words SLAM POETRY in the search and it will bring up countless poetry performances. Once you choose a poem you need to type up the poem. Then, you cut the poem down to only be 2 minutes long. Finally, you memorize your 1:30-2 minute cutting of the poem completely and practice acting the poem out while you are memorizing.

The following poems are excellent examples of slam poetry performance poems. You cannot use any of the following poems but you need to start by watching each of these poems to get an idea of what you are looking for. Then, start searching through slam poems on youtube to find a poem that you can perform well and is about a subject you feel strongly about.

EACH STUDENT MUST TURN IN A TYPED COPY OF THE CUTTING THEY WILL BE PERFORMING.
THE CUTTING DOES NOT NEED TO BE TURNED IN ON CANVAS. THE STUDENT MUST PROVIDE THE INSTRUCTOR A PRINTED PAPER COPY OF THE CUTTING AT THE START OF CLASS ON THE DAY/TIME THE SPEECH IS DUE. THERE SHOULD BE A BLANK PIECE OF PAPER WITH THE STUDENT'S NAME WRITTEN NEATLY AT THE TOP STAPLED TO THE TOP OF THE CUTTING.
All students are required to give the oral interp. performance on the ELAC CAMPUS at the designated time and place assigned to their class.
ALL STUDENTS MUST GIVE THE SPEECH IN PERSON AND STAY TO WATCH THE OTHER STUDENTS SPEECHES ON THE ELAC CAMPUS.
