Discuss the circumstances that lead to that feeling
Psychology of Stress
For your discussion this week, think about the last time you felt stress. Discuss the circumstances that lead to that feeling, and using the information from the chapter, describe the characteristics of the event that made it feel stressful. What does it mean to be stressed? or for something to feel stressful? Be sure to include in text citations, including the author’s name and year of publication, to any ideas that are not yours. Also, please give thoughtful and substantive responses to the posts of at least two of your classmates.

Examining Your Own Stress Level & Its Impact on Your Health
One of the best approaches for managing stress is to increase your own personal awareness of the role stress plays in your life. Researchers at the Greater Good Science Center (GGSC) at the University of California at Berkeley developed a questionnaire designed to measure your level of stress and the degree to which it may be having an adverse effect on your health.
Privately complete the brief survey at the link below (do not post your survey answers; just keep them to yourself). It will take approximately 5 minutes to complete the survey.
https://greatergood.berkeley.edu/quizzes/take_quiz/stress_and_anxiety
When you have completed the survey and reviewed your results, answer the following questions in your main post for this discussion thread:
Did you score in the low, average, or high range?
Were you surprised by your results? Why or why not?
Discuss at least two of the recommendations you were provided within your results. What is the likelihood you will follow those recommendations? Why or why not?

Weisure & the Struggle to Find Work-Life Balance
New York University sociologist and professor, Daniel Conley, coined the term, “weisure,” to describe the blurring of boundaries between work and leisure time. He noted that the Internet had brought a greater challenge to workers who wanted to find a healthy work-life balance. With the Internet, e-mail messages from work are available 24/7, and work projects can be done on laptops at home or even on vacation. Many now “telework” from home at least part of the time (2009).
Many of you probably struggle to find a school-work-life balance, juggling a job, college, and family, as well as downtime when you can get it. Many find it harder to do so when their laptop and schoolwork, job projects or messages, and cell phones make the work present at all times.
Read this article on “weisure”(Patterson, 2009). You can also access it here: “Welcome to the Weisure Lifestyle”
Create a main post that addresses the following:
Discuss the challenges you face when trying to achieve a healthy work-life balance.
Identify at least three strategies you can use to help you in that effort.
Support your ideas with academic, peer-reviewed sources, such as your readings for the week and/or the sources mentioned in these instructions for this assignment.

Week 4 Discussion
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) & the Family
Chronic stress of any kind takes a toll on an individual. It also can affect those who care about that individual, including family members. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a particularly difficult form of chronic stress, and it has unique effects on individuals and their loved ones. In order to help these families to cope and thrive, a program has been developed at the Oklahoma City Department of Veterans Affairs to teach families about PTSD and about how to cope with it effectively (Sherman, 2008).
Read “Session 3: PTSD & Its Impact on Families” of Sherman’s treatment manual for families (Sherman, 2008).
Create a main post that addresses the following:
Identify at least two pieces of information in the manual that surprised you regarding the effects of PTSD on families. Describe them fully and explain why they surprised you.
Describe at least two interventions/coping strategies/recommendations identified in the manual that you believe would be most effective for helping families cope well with the effects of PTSD on families.
Explain why you believe those would be effective, based on findings from research on stress that we have read thus far in the course. For example, if one is a cognitive-behavioral intervention designed to help a family member change his or her thinking about the loved one’s diagnosis, you could argue that the intervention would be effective based on research you may be able to find on the effectiveness of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for relieving stress.
Support your ideas with academic, peer-reviewed sources, such as your readings for the week and/or the sources mentioned in the instructions for this assignment.

Stories of Coping
Let’s all tell a story about a recent stressor and how we coped with it (well or poorly). Add how you think information from this course helped or could have helped you cope with that stressor.
If you complete this post, even without responses to classmates, you will receive full credit. No need for references or asides, though asides are encouraged. There is no minimum word count, either.
I want to give you more time to devote to your final project.

Applied Final Project Stress Management for Type A Salespeople
Instructions
General Project Guidelines
Papers must be written using the current APA Publication Manual. Papers must be five to seven typed double-spaced pages.
Papers must include a minimum of five relevant resources, appropriately cited.
Stress Management for Salespeople
Frank Taylor’s automobile dealership has a number of high-achieving salespeople who could be described as extreme Type A personalities. Unfortunately, several of them are experiencing stress-related physical problems such as hypertension, high cholesterol, and migraine headaches. You have been hired to develop a stress reduction program incorporating both relaxation techniques and physical exercises that can be utilized by individuals and in group sessions several days a week at work. Describe specifics of a program that incorporates techniques of proven efficacy in dealing with extreme Type A personality behaviors.
Tips & Clarification for Final Applied Project
The goal of the Final Applied Project paper in this course is to design an intervention program for Type A employees to lower their stress levels and improve their mental and physical health.
For this assignment, keeping that goal in mind, I would suggest that you address each of the following items in your paper:
Describe the Type A personality, emphasizing its role in stress
Discuss health risks associated with the Type A personality
Discuss the roles of relaxation and exercise in the prevention and treatment of stress
Discuss a few possible interventions to reduce stress for employees and/or Type A personality
Evaluate those interventions using studies of their effectiveness for employees under stress and/or with Type A personality
Create a description of a program that would likely be effective, based on what you’ve stated above. Be specific.
Write a description you would present to the company or to the employees describing the program, how it works, and why it is being implemented.
How long does it last?
How frequently do the employees practice the intervention?
Is it practiced at the job site or on their own time?
If on their own time, how will you track their participation or improvement?
Your paper should be 5-7 pages of double-spaced text (12-point font, Times New Roman or Courier style). These pages do not include the title page or references page(s). Please consider using the APA Template for Student Papers (7th Edition) I’ve provided. It will simplify your formatting, as it allows you to replace the text in the template with your own. Please also consider using subheadings for each section of your paper to guide the reader. You may want to review how to create APA-style headings.
Be sure to support your ideas with information from academic, peer-reviewed sources, and cite those sources using APA format. This involves the use of in-text citations and a list of full references for each source cited within your paper on a References page.
