Description
Your response to prompts 1-4 are your initial response, for which you are expected to write a total of 200-250 words.
Please do not include any of the prompt’s text (below) in your response:
1. Do the readings suggest that there is an appropriate way for humans to act in relation to the gods? If so, are there consequences for inappropriate behavior? Does this relationship seem consistent across mythological traditions, or does it vary between them?
What does the story of Oedipus suggest about the relationship between fate and free will? Do his actions bring about his fate, or was his fate preordained and his actions shaped by some other force? Is the concept of fate in this play similar to or different from that in other myths we have studied?
Should Oedipus be called a hero, considering the term as we have considered it previously in our discussions? In what ways is he similar to and different from the other heroes we have studied in Greek and Roman myth? To contemporary literary heroes?
Ask one original, objective question (not one requiring a personal or speculative response) of your classmates focused upon the readings. You could ask a question about one of the characters or scenes in the play, or about a source online that perhaps gives new insight about Oedipus the King or Sophocles (or anything else that is relevant to the topic of our discussion).
