Assessment Description
Your manager was impressed with the quantitative data collection plan that you initiated over a year ago and has now asked you to delve more deeply into how to motivate employee performance. Now, your questions become those of how and why? To understand more about how to motivate your staff members, you determine that a qualitative methodology will be the best approach. What are appropriate sources of data for this type of research? Describe how you would document and organize your qualitative data for future analyses? Using the research literature, justify why this would be the best approach for data collection.
Note: Rather than providing insights into the topics of employee perceptions or employee retention, focus your discussion post on the research methodology, research design, and data collection process to resolve this applied research example.
Molly-
Your manager is impressed with the research that is taking place. Deciding to dive in deeper requires qualitative research since there is a phenomenon to be answered (Greenberger et al., 2021). The company's employees can provide the analysis needed to decide if the incentive programs are working.
The data will include interviews and surveys. Interviews will provide a theme or pattern that must be coded in a program such as MAXQDA. Making sure to organize the information to provide conclusions for the study is vital to the success of the research. The interviews should span over a while to ensure that the employees have time to give an accurate picture of their experience. Using the MAXQDA allows the researcher to investigate the interviews and patterns multiple times, ensuring the researcher can provide a precise picture of the incentive program. Using a program that the researcher can look back to will be easier than notes on a computer that the researcher would have to go through to find the necessary information.

Based on the needs of the study, the grounded theory approach would be a good choice for the qualitative study on how to motivate employee performance. The end goal is to understand how to motivate employee performance; therefore, to answer the question how, a theory must be constructed from the data (Greenberger et al., 2021). I will need to construct the theory through an iterative process of gathering data, reviewing data, revising interview questions, and evaluating the iterations (Jacelon & O’Dell, 2005).
The data will come from three sources (Jacelon & O'Dell, 2005). First, I will interview the employees and ask open-ended questions. Next, I will engage in participant observations. This will require me to immerse myself in the employees work environment to understand daily occurrences and/or common issues the employees may take for granted. I will record my findings in descriptive field notes. Lastly, I will gather data from documents which would come from sources such as employee records. For future analysis, utilizing the MAXQDA program would be beneficial in organizing the qualitative data.
