In the field we have chosen, we deal with death and dying quiet frequently. More often for some nurses than others. I remember one of the first times I saw a patient “expired”; a man probably in his 80’s, while I was reflecting on how some do not get the luxury of actually living life and have to die very young, this man had lived life. But that is not what got to me; I saw nobody other than nursing staff be by his side during his passing. If we are to transition into the next life or the next “form” we should be there for those leaving. It made me realize that if I was in that situation, how lonely my departure would be, after spending my life caring for those I called family.
