Process addictions refer to pathological relationships with processes such as gambling, shopping, and sex. Process addiction is a relatively new area in addictions counseling, yet it represents a growing issue among clients. Pathological gambling is perhaps the most common type of process addiction. Online gaming centers, Internet cafes, casinos, and fantasy sports leagues may all contribute to the development of gambling-related problems. Treatment of process addictions is similar to that of substance use addictions. However, there can be some notable differences in treatment goals.
For this Discussion, review the Learning Resources. Then view the media titled Process Addiction Case Study: Roberto the Gambler. Select a process addiction and a population. Search the Walden Library for an article describing the risk factors of this process addiction for this population.
