Mini Research Proposal—Putting It All Together
[WLOs: 1, 2, 3] [CLOs: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
For your final paper you will choose from much of the work you have done in Weeks 1 through 5. You have worked through these steps for a qualitative study (in Weeks 2 and 3) and you have worked through these steps for a quantitative study (in Weeks 4 and 5). The only thing left to do is select your methodological approach (qualitative or quantitative), collect and update your work related to that methodological approach, and add your ethical considerations. This is your opportunity to put all of these pieces together to make a mini practice research proposal.
As you rewrite each section of your mini practice research proposal, utilize the feedback you have received throughout the course from your instructor. A minimum of five synthesized sources are required to support your mini practice proposal.
Note: Although some of the parts of this proposal might change as you work toward your ADP, the content covered in this assignment is similar to what will be required of you later on as you develop your ADP.
Prior to beginning work on this assignment,
• Review all your work from this course along with the feedback that you have received from your instructor.
• Decide if you will take a qualitative or a quantitative methodological approach to your mini research proposal.
In your final paper include the following sections and address the following components based on the methodological approach (qualitative or a quantitative) you decided on:
Rationale/Problem Statement (two paragraphs):
• Explain your topic.
• Explain why this topic is important to you or your field or specialization.
• Describe the issue, situation, or problem that your study will address or explore.
Research Methodology (one paragraph):
• Describe, in your own words, what methodological approach (qualitative or quantitative) would be most appropriate for your potential study.
• Explain why this methodological approach would be appropriate to use.
Purpose Statement (one paragraph):
• Write a one-sentence purpose statement that embodies the single purpose of your potential study.
• Specify which research design would be most appropriate for your potential study and explain why.
Research Questions (one paragraph):
• State the overarching research question(s) to be addressed, consistent with the proposed purpose statement and research design.
• If hypotheses will be tested, identify the specific quantitative research questions and hypotheses as well.
Data Collection (one paragraph):
• Discuss the potential type(s) of data and how you might collect the data (interviews, observations, documents, etc.).
Methods of Achieving TrustworthinessorValidity (one paragraph):
• Discuss your methods of achieving validity or trustworthiness.
o No research project is perfect. But how are you assuring that your study is as trustworthy (qualitative) or valid (quantitative) as possible?
Potential Ethical Problems (one paragraph):
• Address the potential ethical problems of your potential study.
o For example: Could your participants be harmed by your research, either in carrying it out or affecting society after it is finished? Who are the audiences for your research, and do they have “objective” concerns for the practical implications and policy recommendations that you make?
