Get it written →Many legacy systems require normalization.
- Identify at least two factors that should be considered in order to produce an optimal normalized set of tables when performing normalization.
- Include in your discussion a detailed example of how each factor would eliminate data redundancy.
- Be sure to respond to at least one of your classmates’ posts.

One of the factors that should be considered when producing an optimal normalization would be when deciding if the Boyce Codd Normal Form should occur, or if the normalization should stop at the third normal form. When applying this normal form, if the result of the decomposition would result in separate tables between the determinant and the dependent, then this rule should not be applied. “If this occurs, it is preferable to stop the normalization process at 3NF.” (uCertify).
Another interesting consideration is the complexities of rejoining the data at a later point through queries in the application or SQL within the database. Decomposing data into separate tables will allow for reduced amount of data as you create relations to join the data, instead of duplicating attribute records over and over in the rows. However, performance requirements may dictate that too much of this could cause additional data processing at the application layer. Special considerations should be made to determine which is ‘the lesser evil’.
