Rules:
Which is roughly. Use at least three sources, at least one of which must be a published scientific journal article (ie: not a webpage or newspaper), written by a scientist. The library website (library.sjsu.edu) is a great way to find articles. Magazine articles, newspaper articles, and online sources are okay for the rest of your sources. Sources must be reliable and professional, and not encyclopedia or “fact-sheet” style pages (e.g. Enchanted Learning, Wikipedia). A good article source will generally have an author. Cite your three reliable sources using the citation style appropriate for your major (MLA, APA, etc.). You’ll lose many points if you don’t cite any sources. Remember that scientific names should be italicized and capitalized. Triceratops, not Triceratops or triceratops. Spell check. Write well. Use complete sentences. No plagiarism. Don’t copy sentences directly from another source. Even a sentence that is slightly modified is considered plagiarized. Always write your own sentences. Don’t quote the articles. There is no reason to include quotes in a scientific paper.
