Equality makes us stronger as a nation. Starting in early 1993 the military had a don’t ask don’t tell policy which meant that gay and lesbians could not be open about their sexual preference. Disclosing their sexual orientation or same sex relationship to other service members could result in a discharge form active duty. The military has always been strict, over the years as times change so do the policies for the military. Took the military many years to get use to the idea of gay and lesbians serving in the same ranks. Fast-forward to more current times where we now have a larger category for the LGB to LGBTQ+. We now have transgenders joining the ranks which had been a political nightmare and a civil rights issue. March of 2018 president Trump had banded transgenders from joining the military, as you can imagine this created a huge wave of issues. The biggest argument is weather or not transgenders should be amongst the ranks. This is a complex issue with many concerns, my hope is to supply enough evidence as to change the mind of anyone who thinks they don’t belong in the military. My personal opinion is that anyone qualified to do the job should be given the chance regardless of there sexual status.
This particular topic doesn’t exactly line up with my career path or educational studies. I am patriot and have always been a huge advocate for the military and always have their best interest at heart. During my activity duty time I had to attend several EO (Equal opportunity) classes where we would discuss many topics from sexual harassment, discrimination, favoritism and most recently how to deal with the new guidelines with transgenders joining our military. This was a big culture shock when it was first brought up. There were many pros and cons to the idea and a lot of what ifs. There were several debates on whether or not someone who is transitioning can meet the standards and keep up.
Some key focus points I will address is the newly implemented guidelines for them to follow and standards. There is such a small percentage of transgenders serving in the military it doesn’t have a big impact on readiness. Another key point to look at, is that it allows for more people to strengthen our military ranks.
My target audience will be those who are interested in joining the military and those who are currently serving and having a hard time adjusting. I would like for anyone to just keep an open mind. I can provide valuable insight to what they can expect if and when they join and what to expect during their time in service. Our military is forever changing and anyone who decides to joins needs to be able to adapt.

The LGBTQ community has had to overcome many obstacles to include sexual trauma, poor mental health, and the overall stigma of the anti LGBTQ crowd among other issues.
NAME, RANK and GENDER: THE SERVICE OF TRANSGENDER TROOPS HAS BECOME THE MILITARY'S MOST CONTROVERSIAL ISSUE. This source follows the journey of a military women who transitioned to male. There is emphasis on the struggles this service member had gone through and the struggles with others to use the proper pronouns. This source also talks about how there was no real effect on readiness and unit cohesion.
Revising strategy would include emphasizing key points and highlighting strength over weakness. It is important for people to understand no matter how you identify yourself, if you have the will and dedication, you can accomplish just about anything.
After reviewing my feedback on assignments turned in, I find that asking the right question is key to a good argument, focusing on key points and making sure that I keep my target audience interested in what I have to say. Moving forward I will take more time fine tuning these qualities.

It seems this source is arguing: on the point that members of the LGBTQ community are just as equal and qualified to server in todays military as anyone else. The LGBTQ community has had to overcome many obstacles to include sexual trauma, poor mental health, and the overall stigma of the anti LGBTQ crowd among other issues.

A counterargument for one of my sources could be: that LGBTQ don’t have a place in the military.
Personally, I believe the source is doing a good job of supporting its arguments because the information provided are facts based on studies and not bias opinion. This source supplies inspirational examples for those who had gone through the overwhelming experience of the military.
I think this source will be very helpful in supporting my argument because it does provide many positive facts and uplifting stories to the contrary. We live in time where the stigma is that only “men” are fit to join the ranks of our military. I believe that if you can perform you daily duties and responsibilities with no question, then there should be no issue to who joins. The only thing that matters is the one common goal we all have when we join is to serve our country.

It seems this source is arguing: To the fact that anyone who identifies themselves in the LGBTQ category will encounter a tougher time in the military than most. Some of these effects include mental health, sexual assault, and segregation. These types of traumas can have a long-lasting effect on someone.

Personally, I believe the source is doing a good job of supporting its argument because it uses studies that have been conducted during and after their military experience. There not basing their facts on opinions.

I think this source will be very helpful in supporting my argument because it shows the true nature of what someone who is “different” goes through and the long-lasting effect it can have. Suicide is a big issue for service members which is why it is important to treat everyone the same no matter how they identify themselves.

It seems this source is arguing: this source focuses on transgenders in the military more specifically a woman who transitioned from female to male. This particular article emphasizes the struggle this service member had gone through. One of the struggles was the use on pronouns and how it was difficult for most to get on the same page, an important takeaway from this article is there was no significant impact on unit cohesion or operational readiness even though a percentage of the service members had a rough time getting use to this new concept.
This source is using the following evidence to support the argument: this source is using a personal story form the servicemember themselves.
A counterargument for one of my sources could be: Military readiness could be drastically affected due to these new LGBTQ+ guidelines.

Personally, I believe the source is doing a good job of supporting its argument because its an article based on the real-life struggle of a servicemember who went through the transition phase during their time on the military.

I think this source will be very helpful in supporting my argument because it shares a real story about a woman who had love for her country and despite the delicate nature of her situation with transition from female to male, she displayed a tremendous amount of courage. This article just goes to show how someone who is as dedicated as she was can still serve in our military despite their personal beliefs. This article does a fine job displaying the strength of the LGBTQ community.

Persuasion is a constant in each of our lives. No matter where we look, what we read, what we see, or who we interact with, we are inevitably going to encounter some form of persuasion. Advertisements want us to buy things. Newspapers and television want to convince us of how we should feel about events. We are put into positions where we must defend our thoughts and beliefs to others, and the process we apply is typically some form of persuasion.
Persuasive writing is one of the most powerful forms of writing—it has the ability to influence one’s thoughts, and also the ability to change one’s mind about a particular issue. The persuasive essay is an ideal tool for supporting an opinion on an issue using researched facts and information. It also gives you the chance to recognize an opposing viewpoint and refute it, noting that those who hold the opposing viewpoint are the intended audience of the piece.
In this assignment, you will write a persuasive essay that makes an argument about a change or a current issue in your major, a major you are interested in pursuing, or your field of work.
The project has one milestone, which will be submitted earlier in the course to scaffold learning and ensure quality final submissions. This milestone will be submitted in Module Five. The final submission is due in Module Seven.
