Rudeness in the workplace is something that has been around for a long time. Some people met are expected to be rude, while others you expect to be nice. However, even the nicest of people are rude now and then. This is especially true in the workplace. Once people are put together for hours on end, you can expect rudeness to show up with at least one of them. It is just a matter of time before they begin to be rude. Several factors play a role in this. One of the biggest factors in this is attitude.
According to ISMP.org, a bad attitude in the workplace can create some of the highest amounts of disrespect. Once employees are having a bad attitude, it is important to find out why and to talk with them and try to make their day better. That negative attitude will wear off on other employees if it is not addressed. It is sad to see negative attitudes among employees, but the fact is, the negative attitude has grown more and more.
Jack Kelly of Forbes.com states that bad attitudes have grown in recent years due to “broadening wealth disparity”. Kelly writes about how employers are not paying employees equally. Unequal pay is very common in this country, but there is another word for unequal pay. That word is capitalism. In recent years, employees are beginning to hate their bosses because they get paid more. The fact is, however, if you want to make more money, you have to work harder. The beauty of capitalism is that people are not all paid equal, and the harder you work, the more you get paid.
There is another big reason why Americans have been ruder in recent years. This is because of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to Belinda Luscombe of TIME.com, Americans who have been trapped inside of their homes for two years have built up large amounts of anxiety. Luscombe believes that after the peak of COVID ended, people are finally free to do whatever they want, but the anxiety is still there. With this anxiety, people tend to lash out more in the last couple of years than they have in previous years.
Rudeness is something that has always been around, but this high amount of rudeness is something new. Fast-food employees tend to get more people than most. Once an order is slightly incorrect, customers will lash out at these people. It is only a hope that in upcoming years, people will respect each other more and make work better for others.
