This chapter deals with financial statement forecasting. We barely scratch the surface on this very important topic. Whatever company I work at, I always find myself forecasting financial statements. You will learn forecasting techniques as well as using iteration to eliminate discretionary funding needed (DFN). You will also learn to run and interpret regression analysis.
For homework, recreate:
1. All exhibits from the chapter 5-1 to 5-8 (with formulas and formatting) – Make sure you clearly name each exhibit using Text boxes.
2. Recreate Figure 5.1 – Chart of Cost of Good Sold vs. Sales (pg. 169)
In your homework submission, the tabs should be organized and in order; name the tabs according to the exhibit.
Organized and clean submissions are delightful to review/grade :).
Important Note: the FAME user defined functions are very cool and make some of the work a breeze. But, as I mentioned in my introductory video, I do NOT want you to rely on them to do ANY work (for the homework or the exam). These functions only work when the add-in is installed and turned on, otherwise an error message pops up. If you want to learn how these functions were programmed, read chapter 15 on your own.

As you read this chapter, the homework is to recreate the following:
- Exhibit 4, 6, 9, 10 through 18
- Figures 8, 10
Please organize your tabs clearly and in order.
Please note the “Get and Transform” functionality may not work using a Mac (as I mentioned in the syllabus). In the business world, PCs are used 99.9% of the time. If you have a PC, get some practice now (maybe borrow one?). If you only have a Mac, try to figure out how to do some of the steps without the Get and Transform functionality (it is possible) or go to the computer lab at school and use one of their many PCs available to you.
Note: when I was an analyst, I spent many hours working with large data sets, organizing and analyzing these data to make sense of trends and derive important insights. I think this chapter will be very useful for those of you that go to work for medium to large companies that sell products or services. You’ll be glad you learned this stuff so spend the time to really learn it :).
