LITERARY JOURNAL REPORT
Now that you’ve read and responded to a number of journals, you should have enough information and expertise to choose a journal to write about for this report. Though you have been responding to literary journals throughout the term this report will be more thorough, developed, and detailed. (See below the list for more guidelines.)
You may choose to write about one of the journals from our weekly work OR you may choose a different journal. There are literally hundreds to choose from. I’ll include a list below and them some links that should get you started.
In addition to the ones I’ve already assigned to the class (feel free to write about one of those) here are some other great literary journals:
McSweeney’s
Winter Tangerine
New England Review
Southern Humanities Review
Fence
One Story
Alaska Quarterly
Carolina Quarterly
Pleiades
Florida Review
Black Warrior Review
Poetry
Crazyhorse
Sugar House Review
A Public Space
NOON
Additionally, here are links to other journals:

Now, after you have read the whole journal, Write an informal (though, well-written and proofread etc.) 3-4 page narrative about the journal from your perspective (that is, feel free to use the “I”). The tone may be conversational and informal, though you should make sure to write carefully and to proofread your work. Standard MLA format, please.
Write in complete, well-written, developed sentences and paragraphs. In your writing, make it clear that you have read much—if not, all—of the journal. (Haven’t done that? Well, do!). The exact structure of the report is up to you, but here are some topics/questions I’d like you to cover:
Why did you chose this particular journal? What drew you to it initially?
Is there a particular theme of the issue you chose? What is it?
How would you describe the style of the journal? And, who do you think it hopes is its audience? Be specific and include examples.
Describe the layout and design of the journal. Is it appealing?
What are your three favorite pieces in the journal (include titles, authors). Why? Here is where you will write in more depth. Make sure to provide excepts and include specifics about the pieces.
Do you have a least favorite? Why? Again, be specific.
Is this someplace you would like to see your work someday? Why or why not? (You may wish to end your report in a paragraph on this).
NOTE: it’s important to make clear that you have read the journal thoroughly and that you are familiar enough with it to write on it with authority and in a clear, developed way. This is different from what I’ve been asking you to do in the weekly responses. Remember to include direct quotes and specific examples.
