Some believe that it is a precursor to an uncertain Orwellian dystopia while others believe it to be the first step to achieving a singularity with technology. The smartphones of today can execute a multitude of tasks and applications within the digital realm. Smart branding from the likes of Apple and Samsung have made them more than just an electronic device and elevated them to fashion statements and status symbols. However you analyze it, the impact of smartphones on our daily lives is undeniable from shopping for almost anything imaginable, managing our finances, sources of endless forms of entertainment as well as many more applications such as translation and navigation can all be accessed in the palm of your hand. The amount of information one can attain has made it a modern-day Library of Alexandria and it looks to only gain in power and capability as the years and technological achievements progress._______________Student post 2: It has been said that within the next few years, smartphones will become the single most important digital device we own. Discuss the implications of this statement.Smartphones has become the single most important digital device we own because the technology is constantly growing, seemingly this device has no limits to what it can perform. Twenty years ago, we were using dial-up as a way of connecting to the internet, now we use Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The smartphone comes equipped with high-speed connectivity, touchscreen interface and millions of different apps. The smartphones are now running complete software, for example, Adobe Photoshop with a faster processor. It can be considered as a personal pocket computer because the devices have all the features of a desktop computer but pocket size. My prediction for the smartphone in the future is multimedia communication will predict the next move we make because of cloud-based server area intelligence that the smartphone has in it.___________________________________________________Discussion #3: Student post 1: Radio frequency identification (RFID) is a system used to track and identify tags on merchandise through microchips that transmit radio frequency to RFID readers. I believe major retailers and manufacturing companies should switch to RFID because of many reasons. RFID tags can store more detailed information about a product compared to a traditional barcode as well as having the ability to transmit information about multiple items rather than one. RFID also has the ability to scan for information from a certain distance while covered compared to a barcode. This results in time saved which also results in money saved. RFID tags now start around 7¢ which is very affordable and in the long run can result in a business gaining more profit because of productivity._________________Student post 2: All major retailing or manufacturing companies should opt to use RFID tags depending on certain factors. One factor is the affordability piece of getting an RFID. RFID technology can be expensive due to its advanced capabilities compared to other tracking services, such as a barcode scanner, and if a company can’t afford it, then they should use other technologies instead to track their assets. For example, if a company tries to allocate their funds to purchase RFIDs even if it is out of their budget, it might take away the funds that can be used for other important assets instead, such as overhead or vendor costs. However, if they can afford it, then they may opt-in to take advantage of its features. Another factor companies should consider are their business needs. For example, RFIDs can be seen as a technology fulfilling a business need if the business has a large inventory and can be able to benefit from its feature that scans multiple items all at once. However, if a retail business has a smaller inventory compared to its competitors, its needs might be different and an RFID would not be necessary. Another factor retail companies should consider are their prioritizations. RFIDs take a lot of time, effort, and money to implement and some major retail businesses might not be in a good place to start implementing this. For example, if a major retail business recently has been having management issues, implementing RFIDs at the moment, might not be a good idea and might have to be postponed when there are enough different types of resources available to accommodate the requirements to implement RFIDs. If RFIDs were to be used in a retail or manufacturing business at the wrong time, the execution might not be done correctly and the technology might not be used in an efficient manner. Given the different types of factors, major retailing and manufacturing companies should only opt in using RFIDS depending on certain factors, such as their budget, business needs, and timing.

Discussion #1 Student post 1: In this landscape that we live in, and seeing the recent news of the Disney World’s battle with Governor Santis of Florida, if I was setting up a website for visitors, I would have to leverage where Disney World sits on its people values and how it wants those values perceived by the public. Disney World is a world wide trademark and like all businesses has to outweigh its responsiblilites to its investors versus the pressure of certain groups to bend to their conservative or liberal values. Disney per say inside is a conservative culture; but to attract all and anyone to it’s parks, it plays a delicate role in how it wants itself perceived to the outside world. Thus a newly designed website, I believe would create a struggle to what the organization wants, to what the management wants to present, Discrimination, of any kind no matter how small it may be construed, on the website could be catastrophic. I’m sure this is already happening. When you are in the public eye, especially now, racism and discrimination, no matter how you may feel about it, if not played correctly, can cost you business and even stain your organization in ways not even imaginable. As far as the technology, the issues you may encounter is in making it readable in every language, including those for the hard of hearing or even blind, and also having a team of web designers that can specialize in those languages; thus, staffing would be an issue to the technology. Also, you are going to encounter issues with bandwidth, resources to the security of the website i.e. complying with credit card technology (PCI Compliancy), privacy laws for data (Example GDPR out of Europe), and constant uptime without crashes to just name a few. _____________________Student post 2: When setting up a website that would cater specifically to Disney World visitors the main emphasis of the site should be aimed at prioritizing its function and purpose. Since Disney World is an entertainment company the best function would be to help promote its products and services through a sales and marketing style of website engagement for visitors. A few of the relatable hurdles that would fall under managerial, organizational, or technological issues may be the following:What type of credentialing should be required for visitors to gain access to the site and or site services? Should it be open access, have VIP accessibility for certain registered guests etc…What is the best way to bring relevant products and services to each visitor individually? Site cookies or referring to a visitor’s past purchases could help determine this kind of specific product/service targeting.What is the best way to maintain the site?
