If you had an opportunity to write the final chapter of the text, how would you write the history?
This assignment is worth 110 points; 70 points for the essay portion and 40 points for the reflection portion. The historical essay should be at least 1 1/2 to 2 pages single spaced and the reflection at least 1/2 page single spaced.
HISTORICAL ESSAY
The text we are studying ends just after the terrorist attacks of 9/11. If you had an opportunity to write the final chapter of the text, how would you write the history? What events would you include and why? Using the year 2010 as a starting point, construct a timeline essay of 6 successive, thematically related events culminating with a current event that you believe has shaped the nation into what it is today. Provide an explanation of why each event is significant and how one event is related to or led to another event. Discuss individuals involved with the events and reference pertinent sources. Your ePortfolio should also include a reflection.
REFLECTION QUESTION:
How have these events shaped your perception about your surroundings and the world in which you live? What other courses have contributed to your experience in this course and the assignment?
Use and cite sources from the text, primary documents and other outside sources to illustrate key points/facts.
When citing sources use either APA or Chicago Manual of Style format. You are encouraged to use maps, charts, images and other media to enhance your project. Your project can also be done as a power point presentation. You can also interview individuals if appropriate in your project.
What The Assignment Should Look Like
First you must choose a thematic topic (environment, climate change. politics, #me too etc.) and then discuss 6 events that speak to that theme in chronological order. The theme is something you feel is important enough to be the last chapter of the text.
The layout of the assignment should look like this: (use the text as a model as well)
1) Chapter title related to your theme
2) An introduction paragraph that describes the theme you have chosen
3) Dedicate one paragraph to each event and explain why it is significant
4) A conclusion paragraph that sums up the importance of your theme.
5) A list of references used
The events should be within the time frame of 2010 to the present. As you discuss each event include an image that “captures” the essence of that event and provide a caption of the image explaining its significance.
