This academic article explores ethical issues surrounding information security (control) and privacy risks and investigates its impacts on users’ behaviors in the context of social networking sites. It also provides some further insights to business practice about creating a trustworthy/ethical environment to engage users in SNS. o Instructor’s notes: My co-author and I written this paper a few years ago. This paper is published at Journal of Business Ethics, which is one of top 50 journals in all business areas ranked by the Financial Times. The recent data breaches have proven that information security is a truly issue in social media. Users should pay more attention when sharing information online in order to better protect privacy. Business should take more actions to protect user-shared data. All these are worth of further discussion.
