childhood environmental influences on growth and development
Your second assignment will involve you creating and teaching (in the form of a short video) a segment on early childhood environmental influences on growth and development. Students may work individually or in pairs (maximum of two students per group).
The lesson should be 3-4 minutes long and can take any form: white board animation, drawing, lecturing, or others. Your target audience is a Grade 12 biology class.
In addition, your video lesson must be accompanied by a one page teaching aid that you would give to your students. This teaching aid can be any format (pictures, diagrams, text, etc.) but must be something that could be printed (i.e., no video) and something that fully explains the topic.
Citations should be included in a brief, consistent format, and presented with the relevant images (and/or on a single slide at the end of the video). Dogmatic information does not need to be cited. An example of dogmatic information is “The placenta is attached to the wall of the uterus and provides nutrients and oxygen to the fetus during development”. Specific information does need to be cited. An example of specific information is “The incidence of placenta accreta has increased dramatically over the last two decades in some countries, likely due to an increase in delivery via Caesarean section.”
Note that speaking from a script that is copied from a source still constitutes plagiarism. Your video must be presented in your own words! In addition, a portion of the marks will be allotted to presentation style: the lesson should be engaging and conversational in tone (i.e., NOT read in a monotone voice).
