Part 1: Hiring Project
Hiring is one of the most, if not THE MOST, important functions of the human resources department. It involves the development of the standards for a position, as well as all of the documents and policies needed to properly recruit and interview. The project for this course is a culmination of these activities.
Directions for PART ONE of the project. There are five sections to this part of the project:
Select a specific position that needs to be filled in an organization. NOTE: You will be using this same position for both parts of this project. Use a job that interests you. Summarize the job you will using in one introductory paragraph.
Write the job description. (This will be included in the job posting) Accurate and well-written job descriptions are extremely important. Using job descriptions will help an organization better understand the experience and skill base needed to ensure success. All too often, there is a misunderstanding of what a position entails. A well-prepared job description can help both sides share a common understanding. The job description should include the purpose, the job specifications and the job qualifications. It should be concise and to the point. A job description should not be too lengthy, but needs to attract a candidate. This will be at the top of the job posting. This is what interests a person in this posting.
Develop a job posting for the position. Use the template in ULEARN to complete this part of the assignment:
4.Develop interview questions for this position. Write at least (7) seven legal and situational interview questions that are specific for this level of position. These questions must be written in your own words. After each question, include reasoning as to why you chose that question.
5. Write two emails, one offering the position to the best candidate, and one rejecting the others.
Please complete this project in Word format.
Please include at least three (3) outside sources you used as research for this project. Please include these in MLA format at the end of the project.
Part 2: Employee Handbook:
Using the company training manuals provided, as well as the sample power point samples provided, develop your own PowerPoint presentation that encompasses the following information in order to orient new employees.
The training deck should be between 18 and 20 slides, and include the following:
Welcome to the Company
Organizational structure
- Rules and policies for attendance and punctuality, uniforms and food safety, legal infractions, and discipline
Compensation package
Performance evaluations – including the tool the company uses
A training manual is a set of instructions that improve the quality with which a job, process, or task is performed. Companies use training manuals with in-person, remote, on-demand, and just in time training. A few common applications include:
- Onboarding new employees
- Rolling out new software and system
- New protocol or process documentation
- Sharing standard operating procedures
- Customer training and education
- Product instructions and information
Companies create employee training manuals to increase organizational productivity and ensure everyone has the tools and information necessary to excel at their jobs.
If you are currently working for a company, conduct the Training Manual Analysis by using your resources to locate the company handbook. You can usually locate the handbook by reviewing: hiring materials you may have received, an internal company web page, or talking with a manager/ supervisor, and/ or reaching out to Human Resources. This is a document that all companies should have and should be willing to share with you as an employee. You should be very aware of the policies in which you are expected to abide by.
If you do not have a job, reach out to a friend or family member to assist you, or conduct research via the internet to find a solid example of a professional Training Manual and continue with the assignment.
In a paragraph or two, please explain the purpose of these manuals and identify key similarities and differences. Be sure to consider this information when completing part 2 of your project.
