Assignment #1: Evaluation Administrations and Write-ups
Description: Teachers are required to evaluate the academic skills of students with autism
spectrum disorders to determine annual yearly progress. Teachers must develop skills
associated with the administration, scoring, and interpretation of assessment results. Teachers
are required to use formal and alternative assessment instruments based on the student’s
individual needs.
Directions:
1. Read about the Woodcock Johnson assesment of Achievement WJ-III or the Kaufman assesement of
Educational Achievement to a classmate and score the results.
2. Write a report of each assessment data and the implications for the students’ instructional
program. The written report should include the following:
a. Explain the reasons for selecting the assessment instrument
b. Describe the assessment procedures
c. List the scores for each academic achievement category
d. Summarize strengths and weaknesses associated with each area of academic
achievement
e. Analyze the results to determine grade level performance
f. Summarize your observation of the student’s social/emotional behavior(s) during the
testing process
g. Recommend instructional and behavioral strategies that may be used for remediation
3. Based on your assessment data, create an instructional plan that addresses IEP annual
objectives for the student.
4. List accommodations and modifications that may be implemented during the administration
of the assessment instrument for a student with autism spectrum disorders. The list of
accommodations and modifications must include a range of educational supports for verbal
and non-verbal learners.
5. Explain multiple approaches for modifying and adapting specific items and task asks for
meeting the individual needs of students with autism spectrum disorders
