Here is a prompt:

A decade ago, mass protests in several Arab countries seemed to portend the inauguration of more open,
competitive politics. Today, however, only one country, Tunisia, has managed to get and keep
democracy. And even that democratic experiment came undone about a decade later, when, in the
summer of 2021, Tunisia’s democratically–elected president, Kais Saied, declared a state of emergency
and suspended his country’s parliament and its constitution. Drawing on the readings we have encountered since February 10, 2022, why has the Arab Spring proven so limited? What does that experience teach us about what it will take for Arab countries to achieve the democracy that so many of their citizens desire?

Write 1000 words reflecting on this prompt from provided readings.
