In Module 2, you submitted three annotated citations for the project. Review the feedback on these citations and find three new citations. With these six citations, you will be able to complete the project rough draft in Module 5.
Instructions
- Find three additional citations that could be used for your presentation topic. Include the citations in full APA 7th edition format in the same Microsoft Word document you used in Module 2.
- Annotate each of these citations with a separate 5-sentence paragraph, including the following information:
- Description of the source and author: Are they reliable and valid? [1 sentence]
- Description of findings that may be important to your project. [2–3 sentences]
- Include the reason why you chose the source. How will it support your project? [1 sentence]
- In one short paragraph, discuss the formatting for the project and reasons for this format. This will be your project format proposal. You will be required to present your project in Module 6 with a 4-5 minute presentation; however, the format of the project is up to you. Topic proposal
Diabetes mellitus Type 2 is a condition that affects the way the body process blood sugar (Glucose) or an impairment in the way the body regulates and uses sugar (glucose) as energy. The etiology of Type 2 diabetes mellitus is caused by progressive loss of beta-cell secretion commonly due to cellular insulin resistance. The reason I like to study Type 2 diabetes mellitus is because 90% of Americans have the condition which is commonly caused by obesity, and it is one of the most leading causes of other disorders. Fat cells are particularly resistant to insulin, the greater the adiposity of an individual, the higher the insulin resistance. Type 2 diabetes mellitus is also part of disorders termed metabolic syndrome. A person with metabolic syndrome has signs and symptoms of hypertension, dyslipidemia, hyperinsulinism, centered or “apple-shaped” obesity, glucose intolerance, and a predisposition to type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Type 2 diabetes is usually diagnosed using the glycated hemoglobin (A1C) test. This blood test indicates the average blood sugar level for the past two to three months. The results are interpreted as follows: Below 5.7% is normal, 5.7% to 6.4% is diagnosed as prediabetes, 6.5% or higher on two separate tests indicates diabetes. Random blood sugar tests are expressed in milligrams of sugar per deciliter (mg/dL) or millimoles of sugar per liter (mmol/L) of blood. Fast blood test is a blood sample test that is taken after an overnight fast. Oral glucose tolerance test is the test that is less commonly used than the others, except during pregnancy. Prevention of having type 2 diabetes is by losing a small amount of weight if obese and getting regular physical activity can lower the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. A small amount of weight loss means around 5% to 7% of body weight, just 10 to 14 pounds for 200-pound person. Regular physical activity means getting at least 150 minutes a week of brisk walking or similar activity. A lifestyle change program offered through the CDC-led National Diabetes prevention program that help to make changes and make it consistent. Through the program, you can lower the risk of developing type 2 diabetes by as much as 58% (71% if older than 60).
