Mrs. X is an inactive, overweight white female in her late 50s. She was born and raised in Georgia in a low-income family, and was recently diagnosed with diabetes.

Y is a five-year-old located in sub-Saharan Africa. It has been particularly wet, hot, and humid this year, and Y has just fallen ill with malaria. Malaria is preventable and treatable, but Y’s family does not have the money for the treatment.
