Final Project
Title of the Paper in Full
Student Name
Program Name or Degree Name (e.g., Master of Science in Nursing), Walden University
COURSE XX: Title of Course
Instructor Name
Month XX, 202X
Write a brief introduction that identifies which case study, client, and mental health
disorder you chose for your project. Be sure to fully describe your client and include details about what behaviors bring the client to counseling. The presenting problem is described as what is going “wrong” for the client. Describe what happens to the client that is causing difficulty in everyday living circumstances. What is the mental health concern that is driving the problematic behaviors? Clearly identify both the presenting problem and the mental health concern (e.g. death of a significant other can cause depression).
Then identify the intervention you are investigating for use in evidence-based practice. Describe the intervention and describe how you will use it for your selected client. This is where you introduce the purpose and format of the paper. Keep in mind that each section (under each heading) will need at least one paragraph (i.e., a minimum of three sentences).
Research Question
Insert your approved research question. Remember that each paragraph should have a minimum of three (3) sentences. You might include information about the mental health issue you are examining and the intervention to be used.
Search Strategy
Please describe the process you used to find the 3 articles you selected. This process will include the steps you used in the Walden Library (or another library source). Describe the Boolean search strategies and key words you used to conduct your search. Be thorough in your description of how you conducted your professional literature search. Explain how you know the articles you selected are peer reviewed. Also remember that you should have 1 qualitative, 1quantitative article and another article of your choice between qualitative and quantitative. Remember that each paragraph should have a minimum of three (3) sentences.
Article 1
Provide the APA reference here. When providing an APA formatted article reference, a hanging indent should be used. To do this, go to the top tools bar, home, paragraph, there is a box that says “special”. You can select that box and you will see “Hanging”. Select it and your reference will be formatted correctly.
Summary of article
Summarize the article by providing one or two paragraphs and include an overview of the article in your own words. Include the following information: Problem/Purpose, Research Question, Ethical and Cultural Considerations, Sampling, Methodology, Strengths and Limitations, and Results. For example, in the article you selected what was the purpose of the article. Was the article using the intervention you chose with a similar client/problem? Be sure you include the results (whether the intervention worked or not).
Article 2
Provide the APA reference here. When providing an APA formatted article reference, a hanging indent should be used. To do this, go to the top tools bar, home, paragraph, there is a box that says “special”. You can select that box and you will see “Hanging”. Select it and your reference will be formatted.

Evidence-based practice and application to case study
In this section, give an overall summary of the findings for all three articles you analyzed. Describe the general outcomes of what the studies found in terms of how well the intervention worked with the disorder and population you were exploring. Answer the research question. If the topics in your articles were related but do not match, explain how you drew your conclusions to answer the research question. Describe how you would use this information in your work with the client in your chosen case study. Give one specific example of clinical application of the intervention using a scenario that includes your client from the case study.
With consideration for the presenting problem of the client and your chosen intervention, write one preliminary treatment goal for your client. A mental health treatment plan (or action plan) is simply a set of written instructions and records relating to the treatment of the problematic behavior or diagnosis. Please use the following as a guide for this section.
A treatment plan does many things, the most important of which include:
Defining the problem or ailment
Describing the treatment prescribed by the health/mental health professional
Setting a timeline for treatment progress
Identifying the major treatment goals
Noting important milestones and objectives.
This is important to demonstrate how the research you found would lead to an effective treatment for your client.
With consideration for the mental health issue of the client, create an Action Plan of next steps a School Counselor could take once the issues are identified. Discuss three different actions to help the client as applied to the role of a school counselor.
Implementation strategies are critical to effectively address the needs of our students. Discuss the Mindset Standard(s) and Behavior Standard(s) students will demonstrate through classroom lessons, activities and/or individual/small group counseling. Please see https://www.schoolcounselor.org/asca/media/asca/home/MindsetsBehaviors.pdf
Managing data is key. Consider how such competencies would be measured to assess student progress.
Please remember to add a conclusion paragraph. The conclusion should include a summary of what you included in your paper. You should outline the salient points that you have made and include how this information will impact your future practice as a counselor. The conclusion is a way for you to reinforce the points you were attempting to make as well as ensure that you have covered all the expectations for the assignment.

Final Project Submission Program Transcript [MUSIC PLAYING]
LAURA HADDOCK: You've been developing your expertise in a particular intervention through exploration of published literature. And now, you're going to apply that information to a case study. To demonstrate that you understand how to go into the literature, identify current empirical evidence to support your decision-making as a counselor, you will develop a polished research paper that applies your findings to the case study.
A guide has been provided for you on the worksheet. You should transfer the headings into an APA formatted research paper. At the beginning of your paper, following your cover page, you want to write a brief introduction which provides an overview of the case study you chose, the client you're focusing on, and what mental health disorder you are going to approach treatment with for this client.
Then, you're going to also explain what intervention you're investigating. And you need to provide some information in your introduction that gives some background information and some scholarly support for your project.
So, for example, we've been speaking of the case study with the combat veteran who's presenting with PTSD symptoms. And if you chose to utilize exposure therapy as your intervention, then in your introduction, after you introduce your case study and your client, when you're describing the mental health disorder of PTSD, you would want to give a little bit of information– perhaps some data– about the occurrence of PTSD among combat veterans. And support that with a scholarly source.
When you identify the intervention that you're investigating, again, you want to give a brief description. And you want to support your description with scholarly research. This might come from a textbook. It might come from a journal article. But essentially, you want to make sure your introduction is rich and validates your choices.
Next, you're going to list your approved research question. Remember, that you received feedback in week one, which indicated whether your question was approved or needed to be revised. Make sure that you include the approved question.
Finally, describe the search strategy that you used to identify your articles. The most important thing to remember is that this project is an application of research to a case study. So when you develop your annotations, you want to demonstrate that you've learned how to analyze articles identifying the most important components and writing a summary of each one.
Final Project Submission

You're going to write one or two paragraphs, which provides an overview of the article in your own words, and make sure to include the critical elements of the purpose of the research, the question that was being investigated, any ethical or cultural considerations, the population that was included, what sort of data was collected, how they analyzed the data, and what their findings were.
One key to remember is that you want to make sure you tell your reader what the answer to the research question was that those researchers were investigating. After you annotate each article will be where you apply those findings to your case study. You are essentially articulating evidence-based practice.
You're going to give an overall summary of the findings for all three articles you analyzed. Then, in your own words, describe the outcomes of what the studies found, and make your own judgment as to whether the intervention is a good fit for your client. Make sure you clearly answer your approved research question.
If the topics in your articles were related but don't match, you'll want to provide some rationale for how you drew your conclusions to answer the questions. Remember, the purpose of this paragraph is for you to describe how you would use this information for the work with the client that you chose in the case study. You want to give a specific example of clinical work that you would do based on the information that you found in the literature.
Finally, you'll finish your paper by writing one preliminary treatment goal for your client that shows how you might go about using the intervention that you've chosen in practice. And you'll wrap it up with a reference page that cites all the resources that you've utilized to support your project. And then, you'll upload and submit, and you will be done. If you have any questions or concerns, make sure to reach out to your faculty member who will be happy to provide you with any needed support.

Case Conceptualization
Case Study Number Four: The Situation of Jared, an African American male veteran of the
United States Armed Forces who is 37 years old and is recommended for psychotherapy by his
girlfriend, Sheila. I have decided to use Case Study 4 for our conversation this week, which is
about a black man named Jared who is 37 years old. He displayed manifestations of trauma-
induced Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, including irritability, rage, nervousness, a failure of
authority and forbearance with his children, and yelling at his girlfriend.
Presenting Problem
When he talks about his experiences working as a doctor during his four years of active
duty in the military in Iraq, he has recollections that cause him to cry (Gramlich, 2018). Because he
is afraid of being classified, Jared does not feel comfortable going to counseling and does so with
reluctance. Since he came back from his tour of duty, he has been dealing with the aftermath of a
divorce as well as homelessness for the past twelve years.
Counseling Intervention
ICD-10 CODE F43.12 – persistent post-traumatic stress disorder – is the diagnosis for
Jared's problem with his mental wellbeing (Jones, 2022). The Psychodynamic Group Therapy
(PGT) Model combined with Cognitive Processing Therapy and virtual reality, which is a sort of
play therapy, is the approach that I have decided to take to tackle the psychological healthcare
condition that has been brought up in counseling.
Research question
3
During their research on the efficacy of the therapeutic approach of psychodynamic group
therapy (PGT) for combat Veterans suffering from posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), the
scientists determined that the PGT methodology integrates assistance, a neurodevelopment
framework for personal character, evaluation of cognitive structures of interpersonal relationships,
insistence on interpersonal different facets of combat trauma, resolution of interpersonal conflicts,
contrast adjustment of psychosocial stressors, and examination of psychological phenomena (Levi,
2019). Consequently, PGT enables patients to address their distressing situation and improve a
plausible narration for it, one that emphasizes the interpersonal components of combat trauma.
After presenting their data, the researcher came to the self-assured conclusion that PGT includes all
of the components that are thought to be crucial for managing chronic PTSD in veterans who
served in battle. In this sense, PGT has the potential to be acknowledged as a first-line treatment
for veterans of combat-related military service who suffer from PTSD.
My findings provide evidence to support the hypothesis that psychodynamic group therapy
is connected with cognitive enhancements in veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder
(Watkins, 2018). This hypothesis was created based on the outcomes of other research articles.
According to the information presented in this article, the practices of PGT integrate elements such
as assistance, a neurodevelopment framework for personal character, a focus on the individual and
social different facets of combat trauma, the simplification of stressors, the evaluation of
physiological cause and influence and the influence of incapacitated specific and team mechanisms
on the participant. As a result of this, the intervention that I provide for my patient will be
predicated on the information presented in the article; however, I will also include the expertise
that I have received through reading other research publications.
