Nearly everyone would agree that minority disparities in healthcare and inequality is a problem, a majority would agree on why there is a problem, but there is little agreement on solutions to this problem. In many disciplines, the “problem” is blamed on larger sociological issues, and thus it is not the responsibility of that discipline to address the problem. For example, medical professionals may argue social inequality is not a problem for healthcare to solve and minority disparities in healthcare is actually a symptom of the larger issue. This often results in no one working to solve the problem and instead we try to treat the symptoms. In this paper, you will propose solution(s) to inequality in healthcare.
The guidelines for the paper are:
1. Identify and explain possible evidence-based solutions to the problem of inequality in healthcare.
2. The goal here is to focus on the solutions, not the root causes of the problem itself. Inherently you’ll need to draw some connection between the problem and the solution, but look to minimize discussion of the problem as much as possible.
3. Do not make the argument that healthcare cannot address inequality or shift the blame to another industry. The healthcare industry may not be the primary cause of the problem, but healthcare policies do play a role.
