Discussion: Chapter Presentation Assignment
Order Instructions
This week, your instructor will assign you one chapter to review and present to the class. Depending on the class size, each chapter may have more than one person assigned to it. But this is an individual project.
After thoroughly reading your assigned chapter, create a 10-15 minute video presentation that:
Is created with your Southwestern College Zoom PRO account along with your choice of presentation software (e.g., PowerPoint, KeyNote, or Prezi) and is recorded to Zoom Cloud.
Gives an overview of the chapter and illustrates your understanding by highlighting key points and identifies what you felt was the most important concept in the chapter.
Offers at least one link to a relevant website or video.
Provides two open-ended discussion questions for your classmates to consider.
Uses a minimum of five resources (including your textbook):
Appropriate resources for this assignment include industry publications, the Wall Street Journal,New York Times and other major business publications and scholarly journals.
All resources except for your textbook must have been published within the past year (i.e., from today’s date).
Resources older than one year will not count toward the five required.
Includes speaker notes that you will use to narrate the presentation. The audio narration should complement your slides.
Be sure to refer to the Zoom handbook in Academic Resources for information about how to record videos to Zoom Cloud.
NOTE: The link to your video presentation recording is to be posted by Thursday at 11:59 PM CT along with your initial discussion post.
Presentation Tips
Think of your viewer as you prepare your presentation for clarity of message, illustrative graphics, and keeping the presentation moving to retain attention.
Three “rules of thumb” for presentations:
If the slide looks too busy, it is–consider breaking up the information across more than one slide.
Reverse type (white text on a dark background) is difficult to read.
Narration should expand on the information point(s) presented on the slide. Keep words to a minimum on the slides/screens.
Submit your PowerPoint presentation document and your speaker notes as an attachment in this discussion board by Thursday at 11:59 PM CT. You will need to respond to your peers’ presentations in this forum.
Refer to the Presentation Grading Rubric to be sure you are meeting the requirements of this assignment.
Requirements:
Prepare a narrated video presentation that meets the assignment objectives and the expectations set forth in the grading rubric.
You must use your sckans Zoom Pro account to record your presentation — see the General Requirements for Narrated Video Presentations .
Your presentation must include a title slide and a references slide.
There is no minimum slide count, but the recommended length of the narrated video is 10-15 minutes.
Citations and references must be in APA format.
Submit your completed presentation materials as follows:
Copy & paste the shareable link to the Zoom recording into your discussion post text box.
Attach the slide deck (e.g., PowerPoint) file and Zoom transciript file.
NOTE: Do NOT submit an mp4 file of the recording!
If there is any reason that prevents the creation of a video presentation, please contact your instructor to discuss an alternative.
