Answer:
I once had a preference to lead a team when it was formed up to when the team was ended after accomplishing our team goals. Some of the leadership skills I practiced while carrying my leadership roles are;
I ensured that we shared a common vision- I made sure that we shared a common vision with my team members which was to accomplish the goals and objectives that the organization had allocated to us.
• I made sure that I possess good communication skills- it is important to have great communication skills. The leader should communicate in such a way that he or she is understood by all the team members. As the team leader, I also encouraged the team members to practice good communication skills to make sure they understood each other.
Step-by-step explanation
• As a leader, I embraced relationship building- this showed that I was a dedicated leader in my position as the team leader. Enhancing the relationship was important as it made the team feel comfortable approaching me whenever there was any problem. I also made sure that a great relationship existed between the team members as this can make them approach each other in case a need arose between them.
• As a leader, I was also perceptive of the team needs where I enhanced that the team members had the skill that they needed to have so as to accomplish the team goals.
• As a leader I also ensured that I was honest and practiced integrity- this made my team members trust me more as their leader and united them to work more.
• I possessed the skill of problem-solving as there were many problems that needed to be resolved in my team. Whenever a team member came to me with a problem, I had to find ways on how to solve it.
Emotional intelligence.
Emotional intelligence is one’s ability to be able to understand his or her emotions and manage them in positive ways.it also refers to the ability of a person to communicate with others effectively, empathize with them and also avoid conflicts that can come between you and them.
In my team as a leader emotional intelligence helped me a lot to come out as a positive leader. This is because I was able to emphasize with the team members whenever a conflict arose, I had to put them in my shoes listen to their views, and come up with an amicable solution to the problem.
At times I also thought that the team members were not performing their task well, overridden with this emotion the use of emotional intelligence helped me to be able to evaluate the problem, think about it in a positive way, and try finding the reasons as to why I felt so and if there was a solution, I would communicate it to the employees in a positive manner.
Through emotional intelligence I was aware of what is expected of me, I was empathetic towards the team members’ needs and this made them act with a lot of integrity and honesty and hence gaining the employees’ trust.
