4. Summary (1 page). Use your responses from Worksheet 10.1A: Summary Questionnaire to craft the summary. A Sample Summary is included on page 87 of the text.
5. References page (1 page). Format according to APA style as outlined in the approved APA manual. You will need to conduct web-based research for this project (e.g., identifying your human services organization, identifying community services and population statistics, etc.). Provide at least three references in addition to your course text.
6. Body of Proposal (8-10 pages).
The body of the proposal should include the following:
1. Introduction, including organizational background write-up (2 pages). A sample Organization Background Component is included on page 80 of the text.

Letter of Inquiry

HUM 5060 Grant Writing

March 15, 2022
Letter of Inquiry Questionnaire
1. What is the purpose of this letter of inquiry? To whom is it being sent, and what is the connection?
The letter is being sent to Mary Smith, PhD. The overall purpose of this letter is to seek more information regarding a grant proposal sent by her to the organization to finance the Kids In Distress Inc. (KID) organization. The fact that it was her who sent the proposal means that she should receive the letter of inquiry to respond to some unclear information critical to the proposal.
2. What year was the organization founded? What year was it incorporated?
The organization is said to have been founded in 1979 and was incorporated in the same year https://www.dnb.com/business-directory/company-profiles.kids_in_distress_inc.75f958914194348d57cb8e1f93112842.html. This is a message that original owners and investors were separated from the organization's assets and income immediately after its foundation, thereby allowing free and interfere with operations.
3. What is the mission of the organization?
KID has a great mission of preventing child abuse, preserving the family, and treating children who have been abused and neglected (Winning Grants Step by Step, 2013). The organization uses available resources to accommodate vulnerable children whose life appears threatened, offer free counseling to parent, and rehabilitate young children who have been exposed to drugs and prostitution.
4. What are the long-term goals for the organization?
The organization has several long-term goals. For instance, it is the goal of the organization to expand and reach out to people outside the city as a way of making the region free of child abuse and neglect. The second goal is to take parents through coaching and counseling to bring up and maintain social and culturally acceptable families.
5. What programs does the organization provide that support these goals?
The organization offers diverse programs to achieve long-term goals set. For instance, the organization provides individual, family, and group therapy and counseling, preschool, aftercare, and summer camp programs (Winning Grants Step by Step, 2013). These programs target children and parents alike.
6. What is the need in the community that you seek funding to address?
In this proposal, the primary community needs that I seek to address through funding is the expansion of the facility to accommodate more people. The community has been having increasing cases of child abuse and neglect to the extent of overwhelming KID abilities and potential (O'Neal-McElrath, 2013). Another facility under the KID management is required to recruit more professionals, which means more cases are addressed.
7. What does the organization propose to do about this need?
The organization has always been committed to assisting families and vulnerable children. They claim it is their passion, but the challenge is that they are a non-profit organization, and all provided resources are used to offer services to the public (Grantcraft, 2008). Hence, they propose to remain committed to the course, look for another piece of land, and put up necessary structures and systems that would enable them to offer excellent services to the people.
8. What outcome does the organization anticipate after the first year of funding?
After the first year of funding, the organization anticipates having identified, purchased the land, and commenced construction tasks. However, this means that the organization would have started its journey to achieve the tremendous long-term expansion goal.
9. What is the total cost of the proposed idea for the first year, or what is the cost to expand the current program? (Or multiple years if you plan to request multiple-year funding?) How much do you want from this funder?
The entire expansion program is expected to run for three years, which means that funding should be done in three consecutive years. The total cost of the program is approximately $250million. In the first year, the company expects to receive roughly $83million, the same amount expected from this funder.
10. Who will be contacting the funder to determine its interest and when? Who should the funder contact for more information?
The KID organization's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) would contact the funder whenever needs are (O'Neal-McElrath, 2013). It is also the same person the funder should contact for more information since they are the overall person in charge of all organizational operations and dealing with other corporate organizations on behalf of the organization.

Kids In Distress Inc. (KID) is a human service organization established in 1979 by community volunteers and a junior league known as the Greater Fort Lauderdale. The organization is nationally accredited for its dedication to preventing child abuse, preserving families, and treating children that have been neglected and abused. Since its establishment, the organization has created a shelter for neglected and abused children as its mission is to eradicate child abuse and neglect. The facility currently owns a five-acre multiple program campus in Greater Fort Lauderdale and a 4-acre campus in Southwest Ranches to attain its mission. In these facilities, the organization offers various services, for instance, individual, family, and group therapy and counseling, preschool, and aftercare and summer camp programs. Other services are recruitment, training, support of foster/adoptive homes, prevention, reunification, family preservation, and maternal and child health services (Home, n.d).https://www.kidinc.org/.
Kids In Distress organization has been of great assistance to community members since it has helped reduce the number of neglected and abused children since its establishment. Over the years, more children and families have benefited through sheltering and offering guidance and counseling services, among many other services, to the beneficiaries for free. However, in recent times, the facilities owned by the organization have been overstretched by the increasing number of people in need. To remain committed to the organization's mission and purpose, it is essential to expand its services by developing available infrastructure. It calls for an extra piece of land and necessary structures. However, the fact that the organization offers free services means it is not financially capable of buying the land and constructing the buildings. For this reason, a grant is required to support this excellent community project. With the grant proposal, the organization shall invest in the "Homelessness and Housing Services where it shall offer permanent supportive housing; transitional housing; emergency shelter; supportive services" to the children and families in need.
The people of Fort Lauderdale have a population of approximately 185,000, and the area has been receiving a relatively high number of visitors from far and near distances. The fact that the organization offers free services attracts people from other countries suffering from child abuse and neglect challenges. The expansion program would benefit people from the local communities within the county and the entire Miami metropolitan area, with a total population of approximately 6,166,488.
Protected children and families mean a safe and better community because families generate future leaders and society. Therefore, with the help that the KIDs organization offers, the community would be improved since vulnerable children would be provided shelter to grow healthy and be supported to achieve their dreams. Parents could be counseled on how to bring up children better, making the world a better place for all people irrespective of their age.
The one thing the organization can do is extend the services to as many people, families, and children as possible indiscriminately. However, this is through the organization's diverse professional services, which is a significant step in winning a grant (O'Neal-McElrath, 2013). To make this possible, the organization would require making quality use of grants issued and other resources at the organization's disposal.
It is possible to know if the organization's program and services have succeeded from the number of people who would get served and its expansion after receiving the grant. KIDs organization is a renowned facility from the solid networks and maintained over the years. It means any advancement is easily recognized, which means its success cannot be hidden (Grantcraft. 2008). Moreover, the government has systems through which organizations that have qualified for grants are listed with a clear message that the program has succeeded.

Kids in Distress Summary
The University of Arizona Global Campus
HUM 5060 Grant Writing
Instructor: Mark Knapp
April 4, 2022
WORKSHEET 10.1A: Summary Questionnaire |
Use the filled-out Worksheet 10.1B in the book as an example to follow as you complete this Questionnaire.
1. What is the identity of your organization, and what is its mission?
The indentity of our organization is called Kids In Distress (KID), which focuses on helping kids in Distress. The organization seeks to prevent child abuse, preserve families and treat children who have been abused or neglected. The organization's mission is to "prevent child abuse, preserve the family and treat children who have been abused and neglected" (Kids In Distress, n.d.).
2. What is the proposed project (title, purpose, target population)?
The project aims to raise money to help children who have been abused and neglected live everyday life. The target population is young children from unstable families who have been abused or neglected. In addition, the project seeks to prevent a child at high risk for abuse from being used by providing a safe environment for them (Kids In Distress, n.d.).
3. Why is the proposed project important?
The proposed project seeks to bring a positive change to the community. Many kids are in Distress because of being brought up in a toxic environment, where they are likely to be abused or neglected. For example, some kids are under the care of parents who are drug addicts. Kids from such family settings are vulnerable to being abused or neglected. Therefore, the organization seeks to work with these kids to help them live everyday lives, attend school, have food, health care, and proper housing.
4. What will be accomplished by this program or project during the time period of the grant?
The project seeks to help more than 500 kids who have been abused or neglected or those at the risk of being abused or neglected by providing emergency shelters to abused, neglected kids, or abandoned infants. The project also seeks to provide counseling services and health care services to abused and neglected kids. In addition, the project will partner with educational institutions and government institutions to ensure that abandoned kids enroll in school.
5. Why should your organization do the project (credibility statement)?
KID organization has been in existence since 1976. For more than 45 years, the organization has partnered with many donors and has provided help to thousands of neglected and abused kids. The organization has positively impacted many families by helping children in need and is one of the most reputable nonprofit organizations in South Florida. The organization has no single case of embezzlement of funds made to help kids in Distress.
6. How much will the project cost during the grant time period? How much is being requested from this funder?
The project seeks to provide a myriad of services to more than 500 kids in Distress within Florida, including health care, mental health services, food distribution, and emergency shelter. Therefore, a significant amount totaling $3,000,000 is needed to help fund the project during the grant period. Since the organization has currently exhausted its finances and relies on donors for funding, the exact amount is requested from the funder. The funds requested effectively reflect the organization's need to fund the project (O'Neal-McElrath, 2013).
