The Sikh Code of Conduct makes 5 physical symbols mandatory for members of the Khalsa  (order of Sikhs bound by a common identity and discipline). The film Roots of Love (2011) by Harjant Gill explores, in some detail, one of these 5 symbols. This week I would like us to discuss the film, in your response I would like you to address the following questions:

What was your overall impression of the film?
What are these 5 physical symbols? What do these symbols mean for Sikhs? (Use your text/course material to answer this question).
Why did Pali cut his hair? How did this make his parents feel? Did social change have an influence on his decision? Do you think that adherance to religious practice changes (increases or decreases) from generation to generation? Why or why not?
