Our understanding of genetics and disease has advanced rapidly over the last several decades. New technologies such as stem cell research, CRISPR gene editing, cloning, RNA, and other cell therapies have enabled scientists to approach diseases and their treatment in new and innovative ways. Some argue that these technologies are a welcome advance that could eliminate disease, while others may see it as a slippery slope. After reviewing the Learning Content from Module 8, discuss the following:

Where do you stand in this debate? What limits (legal or otherwise if any) should be placed on the practice of genetic engineering and biotechnology?
Should this line of research be allowed for some reasons and not others or should doctors/scientists be permitted to freely research and experiment with genetic engineering?  Provide specific examples (of types of biotechnology research) that you believe should and/or shouldnt be allowed and explain why. Discuss how your feelings or beliefs shape your viewpoint on this topic.
