o From whose perspective is the story being told, the person with the disease or disability or someone else?
o What are the main themes that are explored that connect with themes covered in the course?
Critical Analysis of the Book or Film (max. 1500 words)
For full points, this section must describe how well the book or film supports and challenges knowledge about the topic found in the research literature. It must address each of following questions:
o Why did you choose this book or film for the course assignment? What distinguishes it from similar books or films on this topic?
o How accurately does it portray the central character and describe themes with regard to the current research literature on this topic (citing references to theories, models, and other information from the course and outside of the course)?
Addressing this question is the most important part of the assignment. It should use up most of the words for this section of your paper (between 1000 and 1250 words).
o The references you cite in this section must be from good quality scientific journals (not websites, books, magazines, or other sources).
o You must cite a pertinent reference for every key argument and fact that you present.
You must cite one recent (since 2012) authoritative reference for each of the following items:
Essential features of the disease or disability that are relevant for the lived experiences of the main character in the book or film.
Epidemiology (prevalence and incidence) of the disease or disability in Canada. If you cannot locate a Canadian reference, then you must cite a close approximation (e.g. American statistics).
You must cite at least three references to research studies on the lived experiences of persons who have the disease or disability of the main character in the book or film.
