Outline:

1. Introduction

• The German Shepherd is not only one of the world's most popular companion dogs, but also the most widely used for service work.
• Thesis Statement: Many K-9 experts concur that German Shepherds are among the best breeds due to their intelligence, their efficiency in training, and hard working natures. 

2. Body Paragraph #1

• Topic Sentence: The German Shepard is considered to be in the top three most intelligent breeds due to their mental capability resembling that of a 2.5 year old human child. 
• Experts have also noted that these K-9's have a very fast and retentive memory which helps understand and retain words that are most important through training. 
• Their intelligence primarily comes from their ancestors, due intelligence was needed as working dogs in the field, specifically in shepherding. 
• As a result,  of their these dogs are part of the police force and work as service dogs for bomb sniffing, narcotic sniffers, protectors, and mercy dogs brining first aid to wounded soldiers.

• Topic Sentence: In addition to their superb intelligence, German Shepherds are also flawlessly efficient in training. 
• Public service agencies have used these K-9s for the better part of the last several decades.
•  They are put through IQ obedience training tests before being assigned to a unit/service agency. With only 5 repetitions needed to learn a new command, they are able to learn a new command on the first attempt with a 95% success rate. 
• Their loyalty and intelligence combine to create a dog that is eager to learn and please their handlers. Making them extremely reliable for new tasks. 

4. Body paragraph #3 

• Topic sentence: Despite their sometimes stubborn nature, they are extremely hard working dogs. 
• Shepard’s are naturally “herding dogs” hence the name.
• Historically they require a lot of socialization which as a result, requires them to stay busy frequently. 
• Their high energy and drive gives them an advantage most other breeds from “working lines” do not possess. 

5. Conclusion: 

To summarize, German shepherds are and have been classified by many as top tier dogs. Their vast ability and intelligence, along with their hard working nature are just a few reasons as to why they are such a great breed.
