Controversy Presentation(Pecha Kucha style of Presentation)
Presentation Outline and Guide
Introduction and Background: Introduce the controversy without bias. Make sure you are examining a specific artist (K-Pop PSY), album, song, event, interview, public appearance etc. Explain why your specific controversy was/is controversial and give concrete examples.
*** Ways to expand on your controversy: when and where it was happening, who was involved and why did their involvement matter, what else was happening in the genre at that time, how did the media react, how did the public react. ***
Thesis: State your argument from your write-up. Tell the audience why this controversy is significant and make a claim about how it impacted the genre overall.
***Your thesis must be argumentative and must make a claim about how the controversy ties back into the genre. Things to consider:
-Did the controversy change public expectations of the genre?
-Did it change the path of the genre in terms of sound, visual, fashion, technology, etc.?
-Did the controversy set any new precedents for the genre such as legal repercussions or social standards?
Examples and Analysis: Use examples (song/video clips, quotes from interviews, art, lyrics, etc.) to demonstrate your thesis. Use analysis to make an argument about how those examples demonstrate your thesis. Think of the sandwich quote method. You can also use your secondary sources for support.
For Write-up (1 to 2 pages)
One of the secondary sources must be scholarly. The other secondary source can be non-scholarly but must be reliable. Your write-up should include an introduction paragraph with a thesis that makes a strong argument about how the controversy impacted the genre overall. Analyze the sources using rhetorical devices such as logos, pathos, and ethos. Introduce your sources with a signal phrase to help the reader understand why each source is relevant and trustworthy. Use of mix of quotes and paraphrase from the sources to support your argument and then analyze the sources to make it clear how each connects to your thesis.
Oral presentation of a research paper (a double-spaced page of text translates to roughly 2 minutes of reading time). (Include everything of the research which can be explained in the presentation or while giving the speech Infront of everyone). Speech suitable for 6-to-7-minute presentation.
Pecha Kucha presentation (20 slides, 20 seconds for each slide).
A standard PowerPoint presentation.
