Interaction between Nurse Informaticists with other Professionals

Bearing the current dynamic health systems, technology continues to play a vital role in nursing education and work. Just like other medical professionals, nurses’ roles ought to be integrated into the ever-increasing pace of technology. Nurse informaticists’ role in enhancing the quality of healthcare remains undisputed. Over the last four decades, the field of informatics has been upheld as a key area of specialization in nursing care (Booth et al., 2021). The evolution of nursing care into more evidence-based and patient-centered has prompted the need for more advanced intelligent systems for information and data sharing among professionals in the multidisciplinary team.

Notably, the nursing profession does not operate in isolation and cannot survive devoid of a collaborative approach. It follows that to ensure quality of nursing care, nursing professionals most work collaboratively with technology specialists and nursing informatics to avail the right information and data to inform clinical decisions (Booth et al., 2021). This is aimed at ensuring optimal patients’ outcomes and satisfaction. Before the time the patients visit the facility, they interact with the medical receptionist whose has specialized in medical records. The patient then visits the triage where their assessment could reveal several issues. The clinical officer or doctor further assesses the patient and makes a recommendation on whether the patient should be admitted, subjected to further tests, or given appropriate medication.  To ensure that this information is automated and shared effectively among the different medical professionals, the intervention of the nurse informaticists remains of vital importance (Booth et al., 2021). Effective information sharing will eliminate delays or medical errors that could arise due to lack of adequate data or information for all medical professionals. Upon request by any of the professionals, the information should be readily available (Ariffin et al., 2022). Nurse informaticists ensure that there is smooth delivery of services by availing the data necessary to inform treatment and other related clinical decisions.

Strategy

One of the strategies to improve the above interactions is establishing a formidable IT infrastructure (Ariffin et al., 2022). It should be noted that the healthcare environment continues to get transformed by the current advanced technological systems. Despite the fact that it could be an expensive venture to build up the IT infrastructure, it is worth the cost. Automating processes so that patient data is easily accessible will ensure effective transit of information and hastened decision-making process (Booth et al., 2021). It will eliminate delays arising from communication breakdowns associated with the unshared or undisclosed data or information from various points within the clinical settings. From the time the patient is admitted to the time the patient enters the doctor’s room, smooth flow of information enhances satisfaction of medical staff and as well reduces the costs of operation (Lapão, 2020).

Impact

The continued evolution of nursing informatics as well as the emergence of new technologies will definitely enhance the quality of professional interactions. Once the processes are automated, the immediate impact include reduced costs of operations and improved productivity among the medical professionals (Booth et al., 2021). Service delivery will definitely be transformed and optimized. Patients will receive more quality services hence more satisfaction (Lapão, 2020). The same applies to the medical professionals who will become more satisfied because of the improved ability to make decisions more autonomously as an individual or collaboratively as a team where necessary. All aspects of the clinical systems will facilitate clinical care, administration and protection of data, improved patient safety and most importantly evidence-based decisions.
