ASSIGNMENT OVERVIEW
You will organize and design a PowerPoint or Keynote slide deck that you will use as your visual aid during your presentation.
Your slide deck should be made up of 3-5 slides, should not have a title slide, and should follow the design/formatting guidelines from Chapter 15 of your textbook and information your instructor provided in class.
(Choose appropriate slide transitions, be sure audience can see your type from anywhere, match your slide to your speech, use only a few slides, keywords, or single image for each slide., dot over rely on your slides)
For the Social Justice Speech, your visual aid must include at least one graph or chart you design to visualize information/data you are using as supporting material. We want you to finish this course with the knowledge of how to create basic data visualizations, so copying and pasting in a graph or chart someone else made will not fulfill this requirement.
While you can include a video in this presentation, it cannot include audio. Instead, you should only choose a video for this presentation that would allow you to continue delivering your speech as the video plays. In this type of situation, you would serve as “narrator” for the video, explaining to the audience what they are seeing and how it connects with one or more main ideas in your speech.
Although there are dozens of software packages (e.g, Prezi, Google Slides, etc.) that you could use to make visual aids for a presentation, you can only use PowerPoint to create your slide decks in COMM 211. These two programs are the most commonly used in the business landscape, and our goal is to make sure you are experienced with and confident in using at least one of these software packages by the end of the course, so you can take that knowledge with you into the workplace.
Your instructor will use the Visual Aid Rubric, which you can see below, to grade your slide deck.
