Effect of Sleep on Mental Health
Effect of Sleep on Mental Health
Part 1
Introduction
Effects of sleep-in mental health is an issue that requires the contribution of health psychology to conclude its comprehensive impact on people. Over 800000 people commit suicide globally, and the figures must be attributed to some specific phenomenon related to human behavior (Fidan et al., 2018). The research will test the alternative hypothesis because the effects of sleep on a person's mental state are significant, as will be revealed from the study. The research is important to psychology because of the changing sleeping patterns of people due to the changing socio-economic demands making people deprived of sleep. The research will respect persons who are used in the test due to confidentiality of patients allowing beneficence and justice among informed consent.
Literature Review
According to freeman et al. (2020), insomnia, a sleeping condition, needs to be assessed over time for a person who has mental conditions. The underlying problem resulting from the mental condition may arise because of sleep deprivation. Fidan et al. (2018) state that autism spectrum disorder (ASD), a neurological condition, may contribute to sleeping problems in a child and specifically insomnia. According to Fidan et al. (2018), the condition and lack of sleep may escalate the mental problems that a child experiences. Schneiderman et al. (2018) postulate that the longitudinal relationship between mental health symptoms and sleep disturbance is correlated in the adolescent population. Sleep deprivation for individuals at an adolescent age alters their mental functions and impacts their mental health. The impact of sleep deprivation on the population which has not sourced for medication is significant. João et al.'s (2018) work informs the need to seek medical attention for sleep deprivation symptoms to prevent mental health conditions. Further, Ghrouz et al. (2019) inform that sleep quality is an important aspect of students' performance. Lack of sleep causes mental instabilities leading to the dismal performance of students.
Moreover, Chen et al. (2020) state that sleep creates a population of people with mental health conditions between the age of 18 to 85. Kocevska et al. (2019) postulate that stress deprivation during the COVID-19 pandemic caused by stress contributed to a population of people with mental health conditions. Gilchrist et al. (2021) emphasize the need for steady patterns to increase the sleeping ability of an individual to eradicate mental health conditions.
Research Question
The research question will be studied will be the effect of sleep on mental activity and health conditions in people.
Part 2
Methods and Data Collection
The method that will be involved in data collection is stratified sampling. The approach will help consolidate data that would be sourced from various counties in the US. The data will be analyzed using SPSS to establish the correlation between sleep and mental health conditions and the significance of the impact.
Hypothetical Findings
The study's hypothetical finding is that there is a significant correlation between sleep deprivation and mental health conditions. Most people who suffer from mental health problems have sleep deprivation as a symptom. The impact affects their neurological organs, which leads to mental conditions.
Suggestions for Future Research
For future studies, there should be clinical trials to establish which hormones cause sleep deprivation and their association with mental health cases.
