Hello everyone,

Our topic of discussion is improving diagnostic safety. Accurate diagnosis is important in obtaining optimal patient outcomes (Singh et al., 2016). After looking at the topic, I decided to search for measures of obtaining safe lab specimens. Implementing safe measures when obtaining urine samples, blood cultures, Accu chek, and many more diagnostic tests would provide accurate diagnosis and prevent diagnostic harm (Singh et al., 2016). I did not use PICOT questions to begin my search. I narrowed my research to geriatric patients since these population groups are most at risk for UTI and nosocomial infections. I believe the article I choose will be beneficial for my group project because it provides measures to improve diagnostic performance. Nursing research also plays a vital role in answering questions concerning patient care, safety, and education.

After reading the article, my PICOT questions about it would be: Geriatric patient population, can accurate diagnosis improve patient outcome and safety? I think this information found in the article would be of help in identifying other safe methods of obtaining lab specimens and error prevention.
