Please, I need a response to the discussion post following the question below.
Describe the use of a PICO in EBP.
Using the acronym PICO, describe potential components for your literature review you will do when you are searching for an intervention to address your clinical problem. The P, I, C, O will be search terms used in your search!
Describe your problem as it relates to patient outcomes (e.g. rates of infection can lead to mortality, further illness, increased LOS, increased readmission). In your peer responses, offer suggestions and other thoughts for your colleagues to consider.
In evidence based practice, having a systematic way to search for literature and research regarding specific problems is paramount. According to Melnyk and Fineout-Overholt (2019), you can find the best information available by using the PICOT question to guide you as you conduct a systematic, efficient, and thorough search. Using this guideline starts a process that leads to forming evidenced based practice.
2.
P – patients receiving spinal anesthesia for cesarean section
I – receiving prophylactic ondansetron for spinal induced hypotension
C – not receiving prophylactic ondansetron for spinal induced hypotension
O – decreased incidence or severity of spinal induced hypotension
3. Spinal induced hypotension in cesarean section patients is a serious problem. If the hypotension is left untreated it can lead to severe maternal and fetal distress. According to Mavridou et al., (2013), inadequate hemodynamic control during spinal anesthesia can result in unpleasant symptoms, for example nausea and vomiting in the mother and can have severe consequences for the fetus by directly compromising uteroplacental blood flow. These conditions can lead to decreased patient satisfaction, increased risk for post-operative complications, increased length of stay, decreased bonding between mother and baby, and possible neonatal intensive care admission for the baby.
