- •As Hollywood’s top A list celebrities as such as Kim Kardashian, recently started to gain more publicity on national headlines, as she recently started to get involved with working alongside the President and the Criminal Justice System, on working towards a modern-day Prison reform. During this presentation, I will analyze the recent studies conducted which in theory presumes that overall celebrity activism, causes more negative views than the overall expected good. As some of the problems with celebrity activism often include being portraited as they often obscure the complex dynamics of power and socioeconomic relations in approval of simple solutions and ideologies.

- As Celebrities Activism has recently become a trend in our modern day society, celebrities as such as Kim Kardashian has received some backlash after her lawyers Brittany Barnett and MiAngel Cody allegedly help freed 17 inmates from prison, as these individuals had been serving long-term sentencing for drug related crimes.
- And although, celebrity activism is something that has been relatively on the headlines, which includes the Kardashian’s campaign to help fund the 90 Days of Freedom Movement, which centers on freeing inmates that are serving sentences related to low-level crimes.
- Critics and others argue and are calling the work of Kim Kardashian’s prison reform unethical and not adequate for targeting in depth the real roots of today’s systematic problem; as many people object her views in relations to a prison reform as this subject is way more complex to solve instead of just simply releasing inmates one by one and overturning their convictions.
- As stated by (Clarke, 2010) There are two criminal justice systems in the America. One which is designated for the people with wealth, fame or influence who can afford to hire top-notch attorneys and public relations firms, who make campaign contributions to sheriffs, legislators and other elected officials, and who enjoy certain privileges due to their celebrity status or monetary status. And then there is the criminal justice system that we know, which is formally for everybody else. And as some celebrities utilize their platforms to gain publicity or to endorse political commitment, celebrity activism has relatively been growing in scope and in significance. However, as stated by (Georgia Cole, 2015) recent research has shown, that some of the problems with celebrity causes is that they tend to de-politicize activism. They also often obscure the complex dynamics of power and socioeconomic relations in approval of a simple, catch all, type of solution. As Celebrities speaking truth to power, rather than half-truths that may inadvertently serve the interests of power, may be a more promising way forward if celebrity advocacy is to lead to real meaningful socioeconomic change (Georgia Cole, 2015).
while celebrities certainly help bring serious issues to a larger audience, as they often encourage pledges from governments, policymakers and businesses, some of the issues behind celebrity activism, is that our studies reflect that most people have a distrust for celebrities as their motives is often unknown, and as they often are much less effective then politicians at transforming societies problems into appropriate solutions, as well as endorsing adequate policies. Therefore, recent analyses has suggested that the fascination for celebrities often raises the risk that “there will be more superficiality and less substance in our Government and political process” (Georgia Cole, 2015). As in conclusion, when celebrity activism is just simply a trend, it can often reflect misinformation and deception, which cannot contribute to our society's ethical issues (Khutoretsky, 2018).
