That is, can we imagine a being that could behave in the ways you and I behave, and exhibit the physical states we exhibit (and so pass the Turing Test), and yet not have any of the “inner” mental states we commonly associate with these behaviors? If philosophical zombies could exist, then it would seem that the mental is something over and above the physical (because while the zombie has all of my physical states, it does not have all of my mental states), such that some form of dualism must be true. Write a three-to-four page paper (1,000-1500 words) in which you either defend or reject the possibility of philosophical zombies, as well as dualism at large. Be sure to state at the outset what your thesis is, and to explain your terms fully.
