Use the style “Subtitle” style if you wish to include a personal subtitle, delete it otherwise. This is not mandatory and does get included in your word count.

Introduction (Use the “Heading 2” style for section headings of the essay)
Use the “Normal” style for the first paragraph under a new heading.
Use the “New Paragraph” style for all subsequent paragraphs in a section. In the introduction you should put forward your thesis, i.e., the statement you are trying to make in your essay. This should be contextualised in some way, preferably by using literature, but some motivation from personal experience can be nice.
Heading
Text…
New paragraph text. The main body of your essay should be divided by headings. Each heading should be used to separate sections of the essay such that, if you want to make three points to support your thesis, you should have three headings (excluding the introduction and conclusion). Please note that the use of three points here is just for example only. It is important to try to balance the number of points being made with depth, so in that sense, 3-4 points may be best. Each point should be made and be supported by literature, and again some personal experience can be nice. Try to always write in the 3rd person. Make sure all references follow the standards described by the APA 6th edition manual (using referencing software can really make this very easy).

If you are inserting a figure, make sure it is centred. To do this, make sure you select the “Normal” style when the figure is selected. Also, it is very important to note that if you are including a figure, you must refer to it in text before the figure appears. In other words, speak about the figure, cite it like this (Figure 1) or by including it in a sentence, such as that Figure 1 is an example of a figure. Do not skip a line between the text and a figure.
Figure 1. Figure 1 caption. Make sure the “Caption” style is used. Also, make sure the figure caption goes below the figure and is left justified, not centred like the figure itself.
After a figure caption, use the “Normal” style for the next paragraph.
Heading
If you want to insert a table, you can do this in Word using the table function and format as shown below (Table 1).
Table 1. Captions on tables work nearly identically to figure captions, except they go above the table.
Column 1 Column 2 Column 3 Column 4 Column 5 Column 6
data data data data data data
data data data data data data
data data data data data data
data data data data data data
Note. Notes which explain any part of the data are added directly below the table. This is done most easily by merging the cells on the bottom row. Line spacing should be set to 1 for notes.
After a table, you should skip a line and continue with the “Normal” style.
Conclusion
The purpose of the conclusion is to wrap up the essay. Do not make any new points here, but you can synthesise the points made in the main body of the text. Make sure to make reference back to your thesis.
References
Insert reference list here, following the APA 6th edition or 7th edition conventions. These can be found through multiple sources online, or through using the Mendeley software or other referencing software.
