Read the majority opinion by Chief Justice Roberts and the dissent by Justice Stevens carefully, then evaluate the legal reasoning using the four elements suggested by Carter & Burke in the reading “What Legal Reasoning Is and Why It Matters.” Download “What Legal Reasoning Is and Why It Matters.” Your paper should clearly examine each of the four elements – case facts, social background facts, rules of law, and moral values – in terms of this case. Discuss whether you think the decision was well justified, and why or why not.
