For this task you will write a paper to help you appraise effective instructional strategies for use with students with intellectual disabilities in social studies and science classes. There are two parts to include in your paper. Both parts will be submitted in one document.
Part I:
As a current or future leader in special education, describe the research-based instructional strategies, practices, and methodologies for students with intellectual disabilities in social studies and science that you would expect to see utilized by the educators in your district with students who have been identified with intellectual disabilities. In your analysis, ensure you describe the classroom situation, provide a description of how you would expect to see the teacher interact with students, and explain how you would characterize students as actively engaged in the learning process.
Part II:
As a current or future leader in special education, identify an educational level of interest such as elementary, middle, or high school. Explain how you would structure special education services for students with intellectual disabilities in social studies and science to provide learning support within both special education and inclusive, general education classroom settings. Include the instructional qualities and approaches you would want your special education teachers to possess, and explain why you think those are important qualities and approaches.
