Write a short (800 words ) essay on the theme below:

2.  U.S. Core Values

Kottak (2017: 22) identified the work ethic and individualism as core cultural values in the United States. Do you agree with him? Reflect on the importance of the work ethic and individualism in your own life. Does your individualism sometimes clash with your work ethic? Is the work ethic also a core value for students? Can you think of other U.S. core values that Kottak should add to the 18^th edition of his textbook? If you can, please argue why these are equally important and specify your information sources. (Note: Foreign students may also describe and reflect upon what they consider to be the core cultural values of their own country or their parents country of origin.)

Format (use the words in italics as headings, fine if they are only for 1 paragraph)

Theme (kinship, gender, etc. as summarized in Kottaks textbook)

My Perspective (your view on the theme, based on your own life and perhaps other sources like newspapers, books, articles)

Pros and Cons (compare the pros and cons of your view and possible opposing views)

Conclusion (which perspective or view did you find more convincing? which unexpected ideas did you uncover that you had not considered before?)
