This project provides an opportunity to actively review several topics from past weeks in the course and consider several inspirational concepts and ideas:

According to the abstract for the video entitled “The Story Of Information With Professor Jim Al-Khalili,” “We think humans have created huge amounts of information. But in fact, it’s a tiny amount compared to the information needed to describe the universe.”

For this project you should first pro-actively watch and absorb the material in his 59-minute talk via

https://youtu.be/qj7HH0PCqIE (Links to an external site.)

To complete this project, you should respond to each of the questions listed below. Your responses should be well-written and

thoughtful, and be at the university-level of content and presentation.

1. What is the smallest unit of information?
2. What is the pattern underlying the history of information [science]?
3. What shape can information take and where can it be stored?
4. What is the law of thermodynamics regarding order ?
5. What is Maxwell’s demon and how does it work? Why does it violate the law of thermodynamics?
6. What problem was Turing trying to solve and what did he create?
7. How did Turing’s research disprove Maxwell’s demon? Why does the Demon not “get something for nothing”
8. What is the relationship between information and physical reality
9. What is the relationship between energy and information
10. How can the topics in the responses to the above questions applied to cryptography?

To submit this project, you should submit a pdf documents via the Assignments section in Canvas prior to the due date/time.
