Assignment 1 (Individual) – Executive Summary (ES):
The ability to clearly summarize content-dense material for executive review and action is another “must have” leadership competency.  High level leaders have limited time to drill down to the details, but need to know the salient points to inform their decison making.  An executive summary is a concise presentation of the major findings, conclusions, and recommendations of a report or presentation. Aimed at the highest-ranking decision maker, the intent of the executive summary is to inform and influence. It provides a succinct, convincing distillation of the substance of the larger report or presentation, with emphasis on the recommended course of action. Executive summaries typically do not have references, running heads, or citations, and are single-spaced.
Producing a high quality executive summary is a skill and an art.  For this module you will create an ES of the Future of Nursing Report for your organizational leadership with a focus on implementing one of the recommendations. Make sure you identify the specific recommendation on the cover sheet.
  1. On the assignment cover page, in one paragraph describe the organizational leadership the summary is for (a health system VP; in-patient unit leader; health department CNO, etc.), and how the recommendation relates to the mission, strategic plan, or annual goals of that unit of organizational leadership.  This provides context for your summary. 
  2. The executive summary should have a title and author at the top of the page, single spaced, block style.  The ES does not include references and citations and may not be longer than one page.
