At the end of unit 3 the final essay will be submitted and will combine the information produced in the executive summary and the essay outline. In an 800-1000 word written assignment you will construct an essay that presents a current understanding of a topic selected from the MLS Essay tab. Your essay should include an overview of the topic; briefly describe current research on the topic and how it is impacting policing and/or the community. Your essay should clearly demonstrate an understanding of the major proposition of the theory and its related concepts.
The purpose behind all writing assignments, and in particular essay writing, is to enhance communication, develop/sharpen organization skills, improve language skills, i.e. grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, and spelling, and encourage self-expression.

The written assignment should be 3 to 4 pages in length (approx. 800 to 1000 words), double-spaced, and written in Times New Roman (font size 12).
It should include a title page and reference page (Note: Title and reference pages are not included in total page or word count).
Formatting should conform to the American Psychological Association (APA) referencing style. Your reference page will include a minimum of three references (three articles selected for the executive summary) any additional reference should also be included.
Executive Summary
It highlights the ongoing challenges in maintaining the public’s perceptions of law enforcement legitimacy, mainly concerning the use of force. In recent years, the number of civil disturbances across the United States has increased significantly due to officers’ lethal force. The public views this new body-worn camera as one way to address these challenges and improve law enforcement practice more generally.
The research has posted many potential benefits of the body-worn camera, ranging from transparency, increased civility, corroborating evidence, quicker resolution, and training opportunity. Not only does the body-worn camera offer benefits, but it also has its backside. Some critics will argue that new technology violates the right of the people. One may ask questions about the capability of this technology, the cost of the equipment, the adaptability of officers to this new technology, and the correct use of the camera.
Although there are many benefits of the body-worn camera by the police, some authors argue that more study is needed to examine the impact of body-worn cameras. The study will explore officers’ interaction with citizens, procedural justice and professionalism, and misconduct or corruption. It also looks at the use of force by officers against individuals and how citizen view their encounters with law enforcement and perceptions of law enforcement and legitimacy; suspect compliance with officer commands; and criminal investigations and law enforcement-initiated activity.
