International goat story (prefer you to use Usain Bolt or Pele the soccer player)
In no less than 500 words and no more than 750 words, tell me who the Greatest Athlete of All-Time (G.O.A.T) is.
YOU CANNOT CHOOSE THE FOLLOWING ATHLETES: Anyone from the United States of America
- You can choose this athlete from any sport, but you should include in your paper why/how you think that this sport impacts your selection. For example, say you’ve chosen Michael Jordan (who you cannot choose), why/how do you think his skills/conditioning/whatever as a basketball player makes him superior to say Mike Trout and his baseball stuff…make sense? Ask questions if you have them…
- Also, consider how this athlete’s time era might have impacted your choice. For example, Sammy Sosa/Barry Bonds/Mark McGwire played during the ‘juiced era’ of baseball and Steph Curry started a 3-point revolution in the NBA…
- You will use no in-text citations for this assignment however, I expect a list of works cited telling me where you found any factual information you’ve used in your story. For example, if you use stats in your story, where did you find them? Or, if you say Michael Jordan played at UNC, where did you find this? I expect at least 5 resources cited on a separate works cited page.
- Incorporate one quote from someone about this athlete, and, make sure to say who the quote is from. Again, I do not want an in-text citation here, but, you should reference who said the quote in your paper and include where you found it in your works cited. For example, if you were writing about Kobe Bryant (which you cannot do), you would give a quote from someone about how Kobe impacted them and their career and tell me who said it…"When talking about how Kobe impacted his career, Joel Embid said…". Then you would include this source on your separate works cited page.
- Also, incorporate one quote from the athlete, an example might be…"In an interview, Michael Jordan once said in an interview to…’I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life, and that is why I succeed." Then tell me where you found that quote in the works cited.
- Of the two above mentioned quotes, one should be included in the body of your story and the other should be in either the introduction or conclusion. Stylistically you can go about this however you please, meaning if you want to end the paper or begin the paper with a quote which is justified, that is fine. Likewise, if you want to justify a quote within the body of the story, that is fine too. Or, you could alternatively incorporate the quote into the written text…just remember to tell me the quote’s source (who said it).
Lastly, include a creative title for your paper. This is worth 10 points of your overall grade. A title like "Micheal Jordan: GOAT" will earn you zero points because it lacks creativity.
Note: You are expected to put a word count on your paper, if you do not do this you will lose 25 points from your overall grade on this paper.
Further Note: On all writing assignments in this class, I use Turnitin. The average Turnitin score on this paper, in past semesters, has run about 9%…Your Turnitin score (which you can see when you submit your paper) should be under 20%…anything over 20% will result in a failing grade on this assignment and potentially plagiarism/code of conduct violations. I am asking you for 500-750 words on this assignment, there should be no reason for your score to be above a 20% on such a short paper. If upon turning this assignment in, your score is above 20%, you are welcome to edit it and resubmit it, so long as you do so before the due date.
