Using the Training Center project and considering that it is impractical to attend a pre-bid meeting, complete the following pre-estimate activities.
1. The OIC has decided to bid the project. Prepare two work breakdown structures for the project as follows:
a. Your company is a general contractor who self-performs all the concrete work, structural steel erection, and rough carpentry, and installs all doors and toilet accessories.
b. Your company is a general contractor who subcontracts all of the work in the project and therefore serves only as a construction manager.
2. From the date that the FB has been issued until the date the bid is due is three weeks and one day. Develop a simple schedule of the estimating activities using two people to do all of the work. A project manager will oversee your work but he or she is currently closing out another project and only has time for periodic review with the estimating team until the day before bid day.
3. Create electronic estimating templates for the quantity take-off sheet, recapitulation sheet, subcontractor list, and commercial project bid summary. Do not put in formulas at this time, as they will be discussed in later chapters.
