Required Artifact 406

Students will submit a Professional Mini-Portfolio which will consist of three documents: 1) a Teaching Philosophy (see rubric below), 2) a Statement of Commitment to Children and Families, and 3) a Plan for Professional Growth.

1) Teaching Philosophy

2) Statement of Commitment to Children and Families: The NAEYC Code of Ethical sets forth a common basis for resolving the principal ethical dilemmas encountered in early childhood care and education. Each student will create a “Statement of Commitment to Children and Families” which will demonstrate the individual’s willingness to embrace the distinctive values and moral obligations of the field of early childhood care and education. The primary focus of is on daily practice with children and their families in programs for children from birth through 8 years of age, such as infant/toddler programs, preschool and prekindergarten programs, child care centers, hospital and child life settings, family child care homes, kindergartens, and primary classrooms. One page minimum. Quality writing is expected.

3) Plan for Professional Growth

 Please address the following questions:

• When you have finished your Bachelors, what are your overall career plans?

• How do you plan to stay connected to the field of child development (or related field) and aware of current research and best practices?

• Will you join associations or organizations? Which ones? Why or why not? 

• Talk about two people in the field that you will turn to for advice, counsel, and mentoring. Why are you picking these people. How will you stay in contact with them.

• How do you plan to further your own education for success? Do you have a mentor who approves of this plan?
