Written Assignment – Neurobiological Disorders

Choose any one of the disorders (a specific developmental disorder, a specific mood or psychotic disorder, or a specific degenerative neurological disorder) discussed in this course and research that disorder in more depth. Describe the disorder, including its known or suspected causes, the effects on the person, symptoms, potential treatments, and discuss which neurobiological systems those treatments affect. Finally, discuss treatment of the disorder from a biopsychosocial perspective.

This will be a written research paper that is required to be at least 4 to 5 pages in length( it can be longer with max of 8 pages) , double-spaced using a 12 point font. As you will post/attach your paper directly into the discussion forum for Week 14 as an Initial Response, there is no need for a cover page. You are expected to use and cite at least 3 supplemental sources, outside textbooks, peer reviewed journal articles, and/or government or university web sites is required for this assignment, so be sure to cite your references at the end of your work.  Please note that sources such as wikipedia, non-government or non-professional websites are not valid sources for an academic paper. If you are not sure of a source, ask me before submitting your paper.

You should begin selecting your topic and doing some preliminary research beginning this week, and your paper will be due at the end of Week 13. You will then copy and paste your paper as your Initial Response in the Discussion Forum for Week 14, so that your peers can read your work, provide comments, and discuss. Please post your actual paper including references into the discussion submission window for Week 14 rather than attaching it as a file. We would like for your work to be easily available to your peers as you will be reading over and commenting on each other’s work. Also, I would strongly suggest that you initially format your paper in Word, and only copy and paste it into the discussion once it is finalized. Do NOT attempt to write the paper within the discussion in Moodle as you will likely loose your work!
